ELYSIAN PARK, Calif. (KABC) -- More than 1,000 officers took part in a massive police crackdown on the Avenues street gang, arresting dozens of suspected gang members early Tuesday morning. About 1,200 officers from the LAPD, DEA and other agencies descended on dozens of homes at about 3 a.m. in search of at least 53 alleged members of the Avenues gang.
Police said the warrants were for felony crimes including narcotics and drug trafficking, carjacking, home invasion robberies, witness intimidation and murder.
The sweep focused on Glassell Park and other neighborhoods in the northeastern reaches of L.A. ...
Police have not released how many suspects were taken into custody.
Details on the investigation are expected to be released in an afternoon news conference

I understand that they were looking for “53” but most likely picked up many more. I’m glad they are doing this. Fresno did about the same thing and really hurt the Bull Dog gang. Hopefully they will keep it up and take the city back.
I wonder what the percentage of those apprehended speak Spanish as their primary language?

What a waste of manpower. They’ll all be back on the streets within hours. You cannot jail your way out of every social ill. We’re still trying to do the same thing with drugs & prostitution. Most street corners are still drug stores & whore houses. We truly need some new ideas.
I would make gang affiliation a felony. Period. In a gang, go to jail. Period.
That’s great. It is one of the worst areas.
Wrong. This type operation makes the city safer, many really bad felons will get locked up for quite a while.
