Within 24 hours of the leak of the Afghanistan assessment to The Washington Post, General Stanley McChrystal's team fired its second shot across the bow of the Obama administration. According to McClatchy, military officers close to General McChrystal said he is prepared to resign if he isn't given sufficient resources (read troops) to implement a change in direction in Afghanistan:
Adding to the frustration, according to officials in Kabul and Washington, are White House and Pentagon directives made over the last six weeks that Army Gen. Stanley McChrystal, the top U.S. military commander in Afghanistan, not submit his request for as many as 45,000 additional troops because the administration isn't ready for it.
In the last two weeks, top administration leaders have suggested that more American troops will be sent to Afghanistan, and then called that suggestion "premature." Earlier this month, Adm. Michael Mullen, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said that "time is not on our side"; on Thursday, Secretary of Defense Robert Gates urged the public "to take a deep breath."

Charles Krauthammer just ripped Obama to shreds on this on Fox News All Star Panel using Obama’s own words - priceless.
Our President will most likely send Van Jones over there to run the war. Hes use to street fighting.
I agree, tell your troops to pack it all up we are going home, and have a job to do there. Politicians will never win a war sitting in a comfy chair and trying to justify their position and power.
Obama has no clue what to do
acknowledged and appreciated.
Earlier in the year Bill O’Reilly refused to even entertain the idea that Obama was more concerned about politics than the troops. Wonder what he will say now?
......Obama doesnt want to fight.....
The goal is peace at any price.
The ramifications don’t matter. better have peace
The issue was decided in Vietnam and the precedent holds for all time
Impeachment is the only legal solution now. Judge Carter keeps delaying. He must be getting heat from Holder.
I have already started writing senators demanding impeachment proceedings begin.
Same thing. O’Reilly is an absolute idiot.
He may as well resign now then, because he damn sure is not going get the resources from obama. In fact, I will go out on a limb and say that was obama’s plan all along. Then he can be replaced with an obamaite somewhere down the line.
I think he's well away from LBJ.
O has the commander in chief ability of a long haired, hemp cloth clad, beret wearing resident of Berkeley California.
“Obama has no clue what to do.”
More to the point, until becoming Commander in Chief, The One had little or no experience in dealing with honorable people serving in highly visible positions of trust—people who were willing to hold their reputations more dear than their opportunities for advancement. That simply isn’t the Chicago way.
This general is an honorable man serving in just such a position. The One can remove him, but the general owes The One no personal loyalty—McChrystal swore an oath to the Consitution, not to a Fuehrer—and if that happens, then feces will well and truly hit the fan. All you have to do is to look at the national poll numbers on trust: among conservatives, independents and moderates on both sides of the divide, our military tops the charts; our politicians define the bottom quartile.
You can’t “win” in Afghanistan. Ask the Brits. Ask the Ruskies. When is this country going to learn?
Nonsense.
I am beginning to waver on Afghanistan, mostly because I remember Vietnam so vividly.
There is no point in sending our sons and daughters to a war without the equipment, force, supplies, and most of all, a leadership with the will to win.
If Obama can’t commit, then we must force a quit!
Krautheimer on Fox News Special Report quoted Obama speaking in March “we have a strategy that is being implemented.” He then quoted Obama from Sunday “We are still working on a strategy to implement.”
I figure his strategy is going to be ‘no more troops’ and that Afghanistan is the ‘wrong war’ after all.
I fully support our troops but if the president doesn’t, they shouldn’t be there.
There’s one monumental difference between Vietnam and the Long War — the North Vietnamese had little or no interest in conquering the West. The Mooslims intend to do exactly that...
