Values voters pick Huckabee for 2012 in straw poll
The Washington Times ^ | September 19, 2009 | Ralph Z. Hallow

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee on Saturday won a 2012 presidential preference straw poll of social and religious conservative activists from 49 states gathered in Washington, Family Research Council President Tony Perkins said at an afternoon press briefing at the Omni Shoreham Hotel.

It was sweet revenge for Mr. Huckabee, who narrowly lost a similar poll in 2007 to former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney.

Only in-person voting was permitted in this vote -- Mr. Romney had won with combined Internet and in-person voting.

On Saturday Mr. Huckabee took 28.48 percent of the vote, while Mr. Romney was in a four-way tie for second place with Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and Indiana Rep. Mike Pence. All four won 12 percent of the vote in rounded numbers.

Right, I wasn’t trying to compare last year’s crop of candidates to Reagan. I made sure that I put that in my post. My main point was let’s not make it a rule of thumb to never reconsider previous losing candidates. You never know what might happen way down the road(which in this case I’m not talking about 2012).

Yes, or else I really wouldn’t be saying so. DeMint likes Mitt a lot!

Sorry, that is the kind of answer I would have given too, really my question was directed at pissant, to me this Romney connection with DeMint is very important.

I know that DeMint worked for Romney and supported him over Thompson but I was hoping that period was over now and a remnant of a dark 2007 past. What is he currently doing in relation to Mitt Romney?

Let’s stick with governors. But I won’t go with Huckabee or Romney. Too liberal.

“I agree with Sarah but who`s Michele Bachmann?”

Watch this short (about a minute and a half) video; it’s a great example of the courage she’s got to stand up to the libs!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8naaiKrZU6k

And you’ll see why I think she needs to be Sarah’s running mate.

It would have been interesting if you had a one on one vote between him and Citizen Palin. The sad part is this just encourages him to run when he simply has NO CHANCE of winning.

Gary Johnson is too libertarian to really have a serious chance of ever becoming POTUS. He’s even for the legalization of drug use!

I agree with that — normally I don’t say that but frankly was not impressed with any of our choices in 2008.

Hopefully Oklahoma will require a picture ID after we vote it in since our doofus Governor vetoed it and it will be a ballot issue.

This was a values voter summit. Palin shows her family values in wanting to be with her son who has been gone for a year and people, like a babe newsperson on Fox this afternoon, think she should have stayed?

This woman completely missed the reason Palin wasn’t there in her news report.

When Gov. Huckabee took office, the total tax burden in Arkansas ranked 31st of all states. When he left office, it still ranked 31st. He served as a GOP governor with a state legislature that was over 90% Dem. There were a few (4) tax increases under his administration, but they are better viewed as shifting from one source to another. One was ordered by the state supreme court; one was voted on and approved by more than 80% of voters to improve Arkansas’ roadways. One greatly improved Arkansas education and the last was an emergency measure to keep nursing homes in operation.

In terms of efficiency of government under Huckabee, Arkansas gained accolades from an independent audit of all states which showed Arkansas with the 7th most-improved roadways and ranked #1 in efficiency in using government funds.

You misrepresent his position in saying he supports amnesty. He has often stated that the first step in addressing illegal immigration must be to address the border. He was endorsed by the head of the Minuteman project.
