In a rare display of public emotion, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) choked up Thursday morning recalling the anti-gay rhetoric in the late 1970s in San Francisco, which culminated in the assassinations of Harvey Milk, the first openly gay S.F. Board of Supervisors member, and Mayor George Moscone.
Pelosi, responding to a question about whether anti-government rhetoric posed a threat of domestic violence, said that protesters on all sides had the right to voice their opposition to legislative proposals in a heated fashion. But then Pelosi -- whose weekly press conferences are legendary for their highly scripted nature and her rote recitation of Democratic message points -- paused and took a deep breath as she recounted the tone of some protests in her hometown.
"I saw this myself in the late '70s in San Francisco," she said, a reference to the antigay laws and protests as that city became the flashpoint of the civil rights movement for gays and lesbians. "It created an environment in which violence took place."
Pelosi appeared to fight back tears, staring down at the podium.
Pelosi did not say that such an environment had returned thanks to the conservative activists who have been holding rallies in opposition to President Obama's health-care reform proposals, as well as the government takeover of troubled firms in the financial and the auto industries. But she added that protesters on all sides had to "take responsibility" for their words and actions.
Pelosi, a Baltimore native, moved to San Francisco in the late 1960s with her husband, Paul, a native of the city, and she became active in Democratic Party politics. By 1977 -- as Milk was on the verge of winning his Board of Supervisors seat -- Pelosi became the state's Democratic chairman for Northern California.(continued)

Stop taking our money and infringing our freedoms without room for debate and maybe the rhetoric wouldn’t get so hot.
We should start using the “When the revolution comes..” line to start putting the fear of the people into these pols.
“When the revolution comes, corrupt politicians not upholding their oath of office to protect the Constitution will not only be removed from office, but will also be removed from the country.” ~taxpayers against the Communist redistribution of hard earned income
“I cannot find any authority in the Constitution for public charity.” —President Franklin Pierce (1804-1869)
“I feel obliged to withhold my approval of the plan to indulge in benevolent and charitable sentiment through the appropriation of public funds. I find no warrant for such an appropriation in the Constitution.” —President Grover Cleveland (1837-1908)
“I don’t like the income tax. Every time we talk about these taxes we get around to the idea of ‘from each according to his capacity and to each according to his needs.’ That’s socialism. It’s written into the Communist Manifesto. Maybe we ought to see that every person who gets a tax return receives a copy of the Communist Manifesto with it so he can see what’s happening to him.” —accountant and Commissioner of Internal Revenue T. Coleman Andrews (1899-1983)
You had to post three pictures of her? I just died a little inside.
No tears for the many maimed or murdered victims of communist terrorism, Nancy?

Okay now this is just weird, even for Pelosi standards.
Is it true his killer was a Democrat? Read it in the WaPo comments....
I agree that it was not political but the irony would be too delicious!
Does she forget the Black Panthers were long notorious as being the only group who DID bring guns to protests - and got away with it with nary a comment from her ilk?
Ha, exactly.
Viva la revolucion! Viva Glenn Beck!
Commence phase 2, I repeat, all units commence phase 2!
I believe the psychiatric term for what Pelosi was saying is - PROJECTION.
Some believe Milk’s death was linked to Rev. Jim Jones. Milk was a supporter of Jones although not as fanatic as Willie Brown.
Saw the video. That was pre-planned, fake aligator tears. Pay attention to what they are doing: from Politano’s “Homeland Security” stating that conservatives and veterans are the biggest risk to the country — Pelossi’s accusing healthcare protesters as Swastika-carriers — and now Pelossi’s fake tears over imagined conservative violence. (Nevermind that the violence lately includes SEIU thugs beating up a conservative Black man, a pro-Obama healthcare fanatic biting off the finger of someone who disagreed, and a pro-abortion fanatic shooting and killing a pro-life supporter.) Pelossi and the coven that bought the Presidency for Obama have a ruthless game plan. When his current utility declines or it otherwise suits their purposes, the next level of their long-planned overthrow is to dispense with him, blaming it on conservatives. Got to set up the scapegoats now. This is truly evil and reprehensible. Every decent person needs to face and oppose this. Sound too amazing to be true? Then you’d probably say that Chavez in Venezuala, who is getting ready for nuclear programs with the Russians and smuggling Al Queda and Iranian terrorists into the U.S. over the Mexican boarder, didn’t import Cuban intelligence snipers into Caracas on the top of government buildings to shoot Venezualan civilians who gathered to oppose his corrupt election. We need to wake up and smell the coffee. Certain kinds of people will stop at nothing indecent. Pelossi and her klatch are among them. Poor, weepy Nancy. Get ready ...
Dear Nancy. You poor, poor darling. It must be so terribly hard on you to hear truth when deceit appears so terribly sweet.
Reminds me of that quote from Unforgiven: "It's a hell of a thing, killing a man. You take away all he's got - and all he's ever gonna have".
When people are deprived of their freedom, their property, their futures... well, it's no longer life as they knew it. You can bet that some will go looking for payback.
anybody else wondering if she is scared that ACORN will blame her for getting defunded? I keep thinking she is rambling cause she was threatened by some scary thugs........and I just can’t picture granny and gramps proudly carrying signs at a TEA Party are that scary.
The Sons of Liberty
“By the end of that year the Sons of Liberty existed in every colony. Their most popular objective was to force Stamp Distributors throughout the colonies to resign. The groups also applied pressure to any Merchants who did not comply with the non-importation associations.”
http://www.ushistory.org/declaration/related/sons.htm
Marching Orders #1: Force the corrupt politicians and czars to resign.
Marching Orders #2: Do no business with any company taking taxpayer bailout money.
Well, that's an interesting factoid to tuck into the ol' cartridge belt. I shall make good use of it... thanks.
