Rep. Larson's selective outrage
Waterbury Republican-American ^ | September 17, 2009 | Editorial

Posted on 09/17/2009 2:05:21 PM PDT by Graybeard58

We can all agree Rep. Joe Wilson, R-S.C., was out of line and embarrassed himself by shouting "You lie!" during President Obama's address to Congress last week. Decorum demands a certain level of civility in The People's House and respect for the office of the presidency, even if the words Rep. Wilson spoke were true.

But in the uproar among "journalists," Democrats and race hustlers over his outburst, a few points have been lost. First, President Obama took time in his "I-still-believe-we-can-replace-acrimony-with-civility" speech to call former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin a liar: "The best example is the claim, made not just by radio and cable talk show hosts, but prominent politicians, that we plan to set up panels of bureaucrats with the power to kill off senior citizens. Such a charge would be laughable if it weren't so cynical and irresponsible. It is a lie, plain and simple." Fact is his health-care reforms put America on the road to rationing of care and what euphemistically is being called end-of-life counseling. That the president doesn't care for the label Mrs. Palin put on the counselors — "death panels" — doesn't make her a liar.

Second, a succession of Democratic representatives in floor speeches during the Bush administration called George W. Bush a liar while he was president. Rep. Pete Stark, D-Calif., famously went to the rostrum in 2007 not only to brand Mr. Bush a liar but to accuse him of sending soldiers to Iraq to "get their heads blown off for the president's amusement." Where was the media outrage over thatslander?

And in the aftermath of Rep. Wilson's outburst, House Democratic leaders, led by Rep. John Larson, D-1st District, acted inappropriately by initiating an inquiry, later abandoned in favor of Tuesday's only somewhat reprehensible "resolution of disapproval," to determine if Rep. Wilson should be censured.

Rep. Larson's faux outrage is especially galling since he never called for even the mildest reprimand of Senate Banking Committee Chairman Christopher Dodd for, among other things, accepting cut-rate mortgages from the mother of all subprime lenders, pushing lending policies that led to the collapse of the stock and housing markets and drained trillions out of Americans' savings, arranging a pardon for a felon who helped Sen. Dodd get a sweetheart deal on an Irish cottage, bankrolling his re-election campaigns by coercing millions of dollars in contributions from the financial and housing industries he was charged with overseeing, and abandoning his Senate post for a year and moving to Iowa to run for the Democratic presidential nomination while the economy was collapsing.

"The time for games has passed"? Don't make us laugh.

"We can all agree.."

Why are liars’ obsessed with exposing themselves in the very first sentence they utter via this or a similar claim? It really shows how sick they are.

Me neither.

I usually 100 percent agree with these Waterbury Republican-American editorials. But this blanket statement is just wrong.

Should have challenged the sitting president to a duel. That’s the way disagreements were settled in the Gentlemanly Past.
