The “law” never seems to stop the Obamazombies now, does it. Fight fire with fire (for a change), cause what we’ve BEEN doing ain’t working!

It appears the pro-obama mural was painted on private property, which is different than putting it on public property. The whole debate is that the pro-obama people did it so the anti-obama people should be able to do it too. However, if the anti-obama signs were on city property and the pro-obama signs were on private property then there really isn’t any argument for violation of 1st amendment rights or equal protection.
I agree that if he posted it on public property then all other unauthorized posters would need to be pursued as well, which may very well be the case. For all we know, whenever someone posts a garage sale sign, they too are given a ticket. You just would not have heard about it on national news because it wouldn’t be political. I live in TX and some cities do have laws that prevent the display of any signs/posters on public property.
Again, you are assuming that this guy did not break any law or that he didn’t attempt to avoid the cops or resist the cops when they attempted to ticket him.
Too many times I’ve seen stories about a guy getting arrested and claiming that he was brutalized by the police for now reason. However, when all the facts come out, the offender usually took a swing at the cops or refused to obey the cop’s lawful order so the cops “slammed” him to the ground/car and arrested him.
As a conservative you should really wait for ALL of the facts before making a judgement that the cops are automatically wrong. Sometimes they are and sometimes they are not. Please, don’t be like the libs and refuse to allow facts to get in the way of your opinion.

Also, you are forgetting that there could be different laws for posting a sign in the ground vs. posting on a telephone pole vs. posted on a building. There may also be a difference in the laws regarding the number of violations and the severity of the punishment. For instance, one sign violation may result in a verbal warning; multiple sign violations may result in a ticket; multiple sign violations using a destructive adhesive that caused estimated property damage of greater than $500 may result in a ticket and/or jail time.
As of right now, you are talking about something that you don’t know anything about. You don’t have all of the facts and you don’t have any of the background information necessary to determine who was wrong in this situation. Now who is the Einstein?

I guarantee grandma has never been detained for posting a lost cat or garage sale sign. And this is what makes this highly suspect and likely a violation of free speech.

Again, even if the signs are posted illegally on public property IS NOT a violation of free speech if it violated city ordinances or the law. The 1st amendment does not allow you to yell fire in a crowded theater or to vandalized and spray paint a car or building as a political statement.
No offense, but your guarantees are highly suspect since you apparently know very, very little of TX law (or the 1st amendment for that matter).
Also, if his rights were violated then where are the bystanders that witnessed the outrage. After all, the Houston area is very populated so you can’t tell me nobody saw the arrest. I just find it very suspect that nobody has come forward to defend the protester. The articles ONLY gives the perspective of the protester. All I am saying is wait for the dash-cam/microphone recording because they do have it and wait for ALL of the facts.
Stop and think a minute and stop “guaranting” things that you can’t possibly and don’t know all of the facts about. The truth will come out without people jumping to conclusions.
By the way, the cops are not always the bad guys, in TX at least. Most of our cops are stringent conservatives, which also makes this protester’s story a little suspect.

Also, how do you know that this activist isn’t a liberal plant that was acting disorderly by trespassing on private/public property and vandalizing the property all in the name of those “conservative radicals”. It has happened before! That is why you need the facts.

You need to realize the actual state of affairs. And you don’t know if this guy was a plant or not. Here is the fact: whatever laws apply in this case are not being applied equally and justly. The evidence points to this being about free speech, not just a violation of a loosely enforced law- if enforced at all. Not to mention the woman who turned the guy in is an unapologetic Obama supporter. Before you tell others to get the fact, get some of your own first.

The Pro-Bama posters WERE on public property. Lower Westheimer on the traffic light control box on the corner next to the McDonalds.

Also one on lower Westheimer by a school at Hazard again on a traffic light control box.

I'm sure there were others in Houston. Here is a photo from another town:

Shepard Fairey was also responsible for this public art:

There is a double standard at play.

When the BDS barking moonbats staged illegal protests over highway 59 (near Rice U.) they were charged for their crimes but the prosecutors later dropped charges when the “controversy” was over.

Same as happens at the antiwar riots and G8 summits and GOP conventions when Leftists get out of hand.

This is a different tactic.

Also, are the pro-Obama murals painted on private property with the consent of the owners? If so, there isn’t a legal problem with the murals.

Actually it could still be illegal under Houston statutes which dicatate everything from mandating drab gray/brown porno bookstores (can't have a colorful mural even non-sexual) to no "billboard" or offsite advertising on the side of your business. This Obama mural probably violates the billboard ordinances of Houston.

Apparently not you...I have seen just about everything you’ve posted in your short tenure here on Free Republic...

So anyone who doesn’t know the Texas Penal Code cover to cover, are people that do not know what they are talking about??? Boy is that a gotcha if there ever was one...

Anyone else that has engaged you doesn’t have all the facts, yet you boldly make your own suppositions and we are supposed to just take your word for it??? hehehe, prove it...You claim to be a reserve Peace Officer in this state...Most Law Enforcement professionals I know, don’t write comments in the tone you are doing here...

As for my opinion of the kid here, I believe he was wrong in his methodology, and he was appropriately cited for it, something else is obviously happening here, and will come around with time...This will hash itself out with time...

But back to you...I’m not attacking you, I’m calling you out...

Telling someone they do not have all the facts, and that they do not have the background information doesn’t mean that your keyboard quarterbacking of this is any more credible, especially when you are in the same information loop as we are...

I seriously doubt that your tone will change if you choose to explain your reasoning in response to me, by all means prove me wrong...

I’m just giddy with excitement to see what you have in store for us...

Agree. As much as I can see this happening with pro obama cops. I think you may be correct.

Give Up is an artist in Houston who pastes up posters all over town.

http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&q=%22give%20up%22%20houston&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wi

He holds art openings. The city has never sent 7 cops out to the gallery to tackle him.

It is a different tactic. Why so socialist?
