White House Farmers Market Debuts Today
Mother Nature Network ^ | September 17, 2009 | Robin Shreeve

Michelle 0bama will most likely be talking local foods, again, when she attends the opening of the The White House Farmers Market. When I first heard there was going to be a White House Farmers Market, I assumed (like many people) that produce from the first lady’s kitchen garden might be sold there. I wondered if any of the vegetables that came from the heirloom seeds passed down from Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello garden would be sold and how I could get my hands on one. I wanted those seeds!

It’s clear now that the vegetables sold at this new market will not be from the garden at the White House. 0bamafoodarama credits that to the “media mania over lead contamination in the garden.” The White House has released the results of tests that say the levels are far below what is considered harmless, but the media damage has been done.

In addition to Michelle 0bama, Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack and Washington DC Mayor Adrian Fenty will be on hand for the first day of the market that is part of the FreshFarm Markets in the Chesapeake Bay region.

The market is at 810 Vermont Avenue, NW (between H St, NW and I St, NW) and runs from 3pm to 7pm on Thursdays through October 29th.

The FreshFarm Markets website has some information on what will be available at The White House Farm Market.

Shop for pasture-raised meats, artisan cheeses, milk and yogurt, fresh fruits and vegetables, breads and baked good, cut flowers, preserves and more. Our markets are open rain or shine! Double your Food Stamps, WIC and Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Coupons at this Market.

If you want the “heirloom seeds” from Thomas Jefferson’s Garden, they sell them in the gift shop at Monticello. Although, these aren’t direct descendents from Jefferson’s Garden as the property passed through many hands before it became a tourist attraction.

Pre-Friday Garden Ping. :)

Where’s MY free food, 0bama? I’d like to be able to have the whole milk and artisan cheeses...with or without my food stamps!!

Why are people subsisting on MY tax dollars eating better than me? Eh?

What a disgrace these characters are to the White House.

From Putin on down, the world is laughing at these riff raff infesting the Executive Mansion.

My wife sells at a farmers market. Has fun doing it.
Yes, the food safty act could curtail our evil poison the publibic activities they seem to think we are involved in.
The secret to the whole tomato problem? WASH YOUR FOOD.
But that is too easy. We need a 600 page law that can’t even give a description of what a farm is.

The Dems and the EPA have taught me that there are no safe levels of any chemical ever. Even one atom of lead in a truckload of tomatoes is enough to kill every child in the country.

WOW....I was confused for a minute. This post was talking about michelle obama and I thought it was related to the post entitled "Trio of Darwin Films Released (one by Creationists, one by IDers, and one by the Temple of Darwin)".

A natural assumption, I suppose.
