Well - European libs have been smugly lecturing us on how peaceful and good the Iranians are for years and years and years.

At this point I don't really see a strategic downside to Iran actually going ahead and testing one (from their point of view). 0bama threw in his hole cards to the Russians and sanctions are useless once the first one goes off. A regional power becomes a superpower once the potential of a genuine attack turns into first a proven threat, and then an umbrella.

And so the arms race in the Middle East kicks into high gear. We're hardly likely to be able to tell, say, the Saudis or the Egyptians, "don't proliferate; we'll protect you," in view of what we just did to Poland and the Czech Republic.
