Obama heads for foreign policy disaster (putting it mildly)
The Week Magazine ^ | 9/17/09 | David Frum

Posted on 09/17/2009 6:10:27 AM PDT by teddyballgame

Ernest Hemingway offered a memorable description of the experience of going broke: it occurs at first very slowly, then all at once. The Obama foreign policy remains as yet in the "very slowly" stage. But the ultimate destination to which it is trending has already come into sight.

AFGHANISTAN. George W. Bush took a lot of criticism for cutting taxes at the beginning of the prior administration's wars. What are we to say about President Obama cutting military spending at the beginning of his? Senior military commanders are pressing for more troops. The civilian overseers of the Department of Defense are resisting. And Democrats in Congress are already eying the exits.

Afghanistan, Iran, Europe, article should be updated to include missile shields), Israel, Obama's foreign policy has always frightened me more than his domestic agenda - which is saying a lot.

Obama is worst than the linguini-spined Carter, he's a radical leftist. His foreign policy is going to be an absolute train wreck for America.

This should surprise absolutely no one. The Dems have been headed in this direction for a long time, and Obama is at the leading left edge of that movement. (it really came to the fore when Bob Casey won the PA Senate race by running around telling seniors that George Bush was spending all the money in Iraq that should be spent here on programs for them) They are all about a negotiated surrender, getting the US out of the Superpower business and and distributing the spoils for domestic internal consumption.

Obama has ONLY survived as long as he has because he’s “historic,” whatever that means.

Wasn’t Obama David Frum’s man?

A little late to change his mind now...

I think obama's strategy is to get someone to attack the US directly. Seriously, I think he is praying (to Allah?) for another 9/11 like attack. He knows he is in serious trouble on the birth certificate issue. He knows his economic policy is going to drive the economy further into the tank as big government becomes the economy. He knows he will have to preside over the largest tax increase(s) ever. He knows he will never get elected to a second term.

His long term strategy to "remake" America is to foment another crisis so he can declare a state of emergency and cancel elections, or enact powers that basically make him a dictator for life. I know this sounds like a bad plot for a thriller, pretty far out there. Six months ago I'd have thought so too. Now, I think it is a real possibility that obama does not intend to release the reins of power. Thus he is weakening our defensive stance. Demonizing his detractors, putting czars in all over the place, pursuing a foreign policy guaranteed to raise tensions and promote conflict.

I'd give this scenario about a 1 in 20 shot at being real, up from one in a million 6 months ago.

America owes Frum a "thank you" for throwing Election 2008 to Obama.

The McCain/Palin ticket was up ++8 pts. days prior to September 18th, 2008.
So the RomneyTeam attacked Gov. Palin and her children to throw Election2008.

"Frum was indeed a critic of Palin, calling her nomination a "huge mistake" during an October 13 Early Show appearance."

David Frum: "Two of our most plausible candidates for president in 2012 are leading Mormons: Mitt Romney and Utah governor Jon Huntsman."

David Frum: "I have a lot of regard for Mitt Romney as a man and politician.
Let me say for the record: If Romney emerges as the Republican nominee, I will support him without qualm."

Late in October, The American Spectator's The Prowler revealed:
"Former Mitt Romney presidential campaign staffers, some of whom are currently working for Sen. John McCain and Gov. Sarah Palin's bid for the White House,
have been involved in spreading anti-Palin spin to reporters, seeking to diminish her standing after the election.
'Sarah Palin is a lightweight, she won't be the first, not even the third, person people will think of when it comes to 2012,'
says one former Romney aide, now working for McCain-Palin.
'The only serious candidate ready to challenge to lead the Republican Party is Mitt Romney.
He's in charge on November 5th.'"
The Prowler added: "Some former Romney aides were behind the recent leaks to media, including CNN, that Governor Sarah Palin was a 'diva' and was going off message intentionally."
The Romney supporters in the McCain campaign had access to internal polling which indicated well in advance of the November 4 election that McCain had no chance to win.
So they began working to position their man Mitt for a run in 2012. Just two days after the election,The Palmetto Scoop reported:
"One of the first stories to hit the national airwaves was the claim of a major internal strife between close McCain aides and the folks handling his running mate Sarah Palin."
"I’m told by very good sources that this was indeed the case and that a rift had developed, but it was between Palin’s people and the staffers brought on from the failed presidential campaign of former Gov. Mitt Romney, not McCain aides."
"The sources said nearly 80 percent of Romney’s former staff was absorbed by McCain and these individuals were responsible for what amounts to a premeditated, last-minute sabotage of Palin."
These aides loyal to Romney inside the McCain campaign, said The Scoop, reportedly saw that Palin would be a serious contender for the Republican nomination in 2012 or 2016, which made her a threat to another presidential quest by Romney.
Erick Erickson, who organized Operation Leper, said:
"Here’s what I think: I think there are some staffers on the McCain campaign who seriously screwed up the roll out of Sarah Palin, to which Governor Palin herself objected.
These staffers are now out trying to finish her off thinking, as typical D.C. types do, that if they don’t do it to her, she’ll do it to them. They just never understood who Palin is or what she is about."
"Likewise, I do think there are some staffers and others who expect Mitt Romney to run again in 2012,
they decided McCain could not win, and decided to undermine Sarah Palin and her chances hoping it would ingratiate themselves with Mitt Romney."

"Who's the Palin Leaker from the McCain Campaign? (Mark Wallace, Romney pimp)
National Review Online The publication of a Vanity Fair profile of Sarah Palin
appears to have opened old wounds in the McCain campaign.
... the source of the “Diva” leak was Nicolle Wallace’s husband."

Who benefits most from Sanford meltdown? Californian (that's right) Mitt Romney

"Vanity: Team Romney Sabotaged Palin and Continuing to Do So?"

"Romney Supporters Trashing Palin"

"Romney advisors sniping at Palin?"

I think it’s a little more simple than that. He’s a liberal which means he dispised the military and America, and would like to coddle our enemies and alienate our allies. Ultimately, he’d like to see the U.S. weaken to the point that we are on equal footing with Europe and our enemies. He’d rather spend money on midnight basketball programs than protecting U.S. interests.

He is a child wandering around in an adult world and aware only of his own desires. He has advisers who are bent on an American Utopia where peace is the only desirable state of affairs and merely not fighting makes peace.

The world laughs at him and his rabble. His administration is well defined by the catastrophe that is Acorn. It is all the same. Racism is permissible when race is the only measure permitted

And never, never, never, never underestimate the imbecilic LEGION of Odumbo voters out there who have barely a 4th grade education level. These people are steeped in hip-hop/pop culture and are obsessively consumed with a "me, me, me" mentality. They will vote religiously for anyone who promises them the most "free" government handouts.

Add to this the country-wide support he probably envisions for himself as what happened 9/11 to Bush. Difference is is that Bush wasn't trying to change the country to socialism like Obama is now. Bush had deep respect for the military. He met with CIA, FBI, NSC first thing every morning. I doubt Obama does that - he's too busy flying all over the country and world in that cool aeroplane.

Bush was working; Obama is still campaigning. We've witnessed the Obama administration attacking our CIA. Bad mouthing the USA when he was overseas.

We had a real leader on 9/11 fortunately; now we have the Keystone Kops.

Hey Frum,"YOU LIE" Obama's current military budget is HIGHER than Bush's last one and he has INCREASED the size of the total active duty forces. Frum and Obama, and their mutual attempts to police the world, are both part of the problem.

What are the odds that there won't even be another presidential election?

Once again, Obama's international backers aren't going to leave anything to chance. By 2012 we will probably be under some kind of emergency national security directive postponing presidential elections.

“I think obama’s strategy is to get someone to attack the US directly.” Do not doubt your instincts. His first interview with with an arab news organization. He bowed to the saudi king. Think about that one, he frikkin bowed to.... Any US president bowing to anyone is a huge flash of weakness. He made the statement that he regrets that the Constitution limits what government can DO to the citizens.
True to form, as a good dimrat, they are really defunding the military. I could go on and on for a week about his actions, but when you add it all up, you cannot reach any other conclusion that he is setting us up for an attack. “Then what” moment here. Why would a president do such a thing? To acquire power like no one has ever had in this country I believe. This man is a huge threat to our national security and with a complicit press, I don’t see anything stopping him until the 2010 elections, if they happen. If we are attacked, I don’t see the midterms happening, but if we are not attacked by then, he will be politically neutered. This makes sense of all the hurry to get their pet projects passed. Setting up the dominoes.
