RNC Chairman Michael Steele shot back at CNNs Wolf Blitzer after the anchor tried to smear conservatives with racism on Wednesdays Situation Room. The CNN anchor pointed out a racist sign at a Tea Party, and Steele replied, Dont hold up one person as an example of behavior by everyone. [audio clips from the segment are available here].
Blitzer brought up supposed racism at Tea Parties: You have to admit, if you take a look at some of those rallies, there were some really racist pictures out there...pictures of the President of the United States as an African witch doctor, if you will....
Steele criticized the medias focus on the more extreme sentiments at the rallies:
STEELE: You know- and look, thats inappropriate and misplaced. Thats what- how that person may have interpreted it, but for every one of those, Wolf, there were 70, 80, 100- 1,000 other signs that werent that, and so this is- this is the distinction I think we need to understand. Dont hold up one person as an example of behavior by everyone, because thats not what were talking about here, and I think we need to be very careful and sensitive. If we want to stay serious about solving some of the issues on race, then we just cant go around every corner claiming it exists there and it exists there when it doesnt, and thats- thats where I have a real problem with a lot of these folks who are coming out here, trying to play this card from beneath the deck in such a way to stifle debate, to have us focus on something other than the Presidents policies. Instead, now were having this discussion about race....

Of course extremist posters were par for the course for anti-Bush rallies, but I don’t recall the mainstream media portraying or condemning those at all.
I happened to catch a lot of that interview. Blitzer was selling Republicans as racists.
Go get em Mike... thats why I like this guy.... I would stand with STEELE anyday anywhere..... The racists are the Liberals that are using projection in this debate, Carter must truly hate himself to project racism on people that would offer patriotic dissent to this administration. We should not be afraid to question Obama or any President regardless of his skin color.
Steele should have called Blitzer a racist for not agreeing with everything Steele said ... :o)

Very funny poster! Lighten up Blister, Steel owned you when he nailed the Great Society and its damage to the Black Society.
Pray for America
You know, Im looking at cities around the country where black folk live. Now, you showed me the Congress with all these wonderful black Democrats and white Democrats- but I go to black neighborhoods that are run by those same Democrats, and you tell me where racism really exists. Is it in the words of a congressman who says you lie, or is it how we strip education funding through opportunity scholarships, or is it how we cut money for our HBCU [historically black colleges and universities] around the country, or is it the fact that so many African-Americans still live in neighborhoods that are burnt out and run down, and those same Democrats that are in that hall and that are running those cities arent investing capital, time, interest in that community- and instead, just giving the typical 40-year lip service out of the Great Society, that- trust us, were better, and if you dont, the Republicans- the Republicans are going to come in a white hood. Im sick of that.
We need more of that.
Mr. Steele did a great job with that. We are sick of it as well.
That was awesome!
Steele did good.
I just knew Steele would develop into the role.
OK, I was nervous at first but Michael is settling in just fine as the Man of Steele.
He was just "following orders". The fax from the DNC instructed him how to handle the interview.
These people are so transparent that it's painful to watch...
Too bad the people in those neighborhood still vote for the same party that has done absolutely nothing for them. We need to show the working poor, lower middle class, who earn their way, that they have more in common with us, than with the Democrats.
God bless Steele for standing up and saying what needed to be said. This was a splendid display of spine!! Bravo!
Note that the video was from Brighton (see St. Bart’s Episcopal Church in the background), not Washington DC. I happened to be standing just to the left of the poster (to the right on the screen) when the video was taken. I was surprised at three things.
1) The video recorder and journalist had absolutely no identifying decals or insignia. The journalist was wearing a name tag, but it was turned backward. The camera was NOT identified in any way. Was CNN too scared to even declare their presence?
2) There was rain, off and on all during the event. This poster was the ONLY one with a plastic cover. The person carrying it took the cover off only for the video, and then covered the poster back up again. All of the other people prepared their posters for this event only and had no covers. Was this guy a plant going from event to event?
3)The camera must have had a very wide angle lens, it was only a couple of feet from the poster. Thus, the guy carrying the poster was not seen in the video. Was this an effort to hide his identity so that if he showed up at another event, this video from the previous one wouldn’t identify him?
I saw Steele on Blitzer. He was very good— VERY good.I was proud to be a Republican conservative after he spoke. He kicked the crap out of that Carter jackass. Let me say that Michael Savage predicted that we would be called “ racists “ for opposing communist philosophy. He also pointed out that this is classic psychological projection by Carter and it is HE THAT IS A RACIST!!.
But Michael Steele was wonderful and very together. Jimmy Carter will go down as a total Kook.
That's this weeks talking point as faxed to the government run media outlets.
