MR. RUSSERT: When the president talked about Yucca Mountain and moving the nation's nuclear waste there, you were very, very, very strong in your words. You said, "President Bush is a liar. He betrayed Nevada and he betrayed the country."
Is that rhetoric appropriate?
SEN. REID: I don't know if that rhetoric is appropriate. That's how I feel, and that's how I felt. I think to take that issue, Tim, to take the most poisonous substance known to man, plutonium, and haul 70,000 tons of it across the highways and railways of this country, past schools and churches and people's businesses is wrong.
It's something that is being forced upon this country by the utilities, and it's wrong. And we have to stop it. And people may not like what I said, but I said it, and I don't back off one bit.

UPDATE: Vegas blogger Steve Sebelius opines that Reid didn't apologize because "Bush did lie."

Why? Because Reid was right. Bush did lie.
During the 2000 campaign, Bush — at the urging of Nevada-based consultants — issued a statement in which he said he would not move forward on the Yucca Mountain nuclear waste dump unless there was “sound science” to back it up.
After Bush assumed the presidency under Supreme Court fiat in early 2001, he went forward with the dump, even though there were myriad scientific questions left to answer."

This can be used actually in the health care debate to point out what happens when we believe politicians who will say anything and once they decide what will happen to us it doesn’t matter that they lied because there is nothing we can do about it. JUST WORDS. This is why we don’t want our lives in their hands.

Reid’s comment came when Republicans controlled the Senate, but I don’t recall there being any screams for him to apologize, or be censured.

Of course there weren't any screams for censure, calling someone a liar is only an insult when the person or group knows it to be truth and they want to cover it up. Let them scream about it...they will only expose themselves in the end.
Nor did he ever apologize for standing on the Senate floor and declaring the war lost in Iraq causing untold additional casualties to our service men and women. For that act of treason alone I wish upon him things that would get me arrested if spoken out loud. Harry, I can’t wait for the day that you meet up with Teddy in HELL!
