Take a few minutes to listen to the last phone call of Betty Ong, a flight attendant on American Airlines Flight 11 before it hit the World Trade Center, eight years ago today on September 11, 2001. Ong is calm and matter-of-fact as she describes what was occuring within minutes of the hijacking to skeptical airline personnel on the ground. She was forced to repeat the same basic details again and again: "Ok. Our Number 1 got stabbed. Our purser is stabbed. Nobody knows who stabbed who, and we cant even get up to business class right now cause nobody can breathe
" She remained on the phone for 23 minutes, calmly relaying information up to seconds before the impact. Just over four minutes of the phone call were replayed at the 9-11 commission hearings. Her last words were "Pray for us. Pray for us."

Rest in peace, Betty. Composure under impossible stress. She was a hero, for holding it together instead of panicking even when she surely knew the end of her and everyone else’s story that day. How many could hold it together ‘til the inevitable end like she did?
Never forget.

I always liked this cartoon in response to the attakcs. Seems like the eagle's talons are pretty dull these days under the current administration.

She was a friend and coworker of a friend of mine. Beautiful woman. Thanks to her bravery at the worst time of her life, we know who the terrorists were. Rest in peace, Betty.

Isn’t it more plausible to believe the ‘truthers’ were behind 9/11? They certainly hate Bush and America enough to.

Thanks for posting. This is what we should be doing— remembering the heroes; not going on silly painting projects for community service. :(

Obama has clearly shown us which side he has taken, and I don’t think it is ours.

Truthers were demonstrating Thursday evening in front of Time Warner. One was wearing the Gadsden banner as a cape, the poor confused little devils.

Heartbreaking. That horrifying word “descending” . . . Thank you Betty and Lydia.
