Wilson raises more than $200,000 after outburst

(CNN) -- Less than a day after Rep. Joe Wilson formally apologized to President Obama over his "you lie" outburst, a campaign aide confirms that the South Carolina Republican has raised "more than $200,000" in the wake of the now-infamous moment.

Rep. Joe Wilson, R-South Carolina, shouts "You lie!" during President Obama's speech Wednesday night.

News of that cash haul comes after Wilson directly asked in a Web video for campaign cash to fend off attacks from political opponents and said he's standing by his opposition to Democratic efforts at health care reform.

"On these issues, I will not be muzzled, I will speak up and speak loudly against this risky plan," Wilson said in a YouTube video released Thursday evening. "The supporters of the government takeover of health care and the liberals who want to give health care to illegals are using my opposition as an excuse to distract from the critical questions being raised about this poorly conceived plan."

The congressman disbursed the video via Twitter and asked his followers to "please watch and pass on."

At Bush's 2006 State of the Union speech, Democrats interrupted his speech to applaud and cheer their obstruction of Bush's proposal to reform Social Security.

Fast-forward to about 45:50 to see it. And at 46:05, take careful note of who you see in the lower left corner of the frame.

Hint: he didn't vote "present" this time.

His website for donations was down for quite awhile — the $ numbers will go up when the US mail donations arrive - as mine is one of them.

His only mistake was apologizing afterwards.

“I gave $25.”

Likewise. I hope there are thousands more.

I don't think he will have any problem raising money for his reelection, in the reelection campaign in 2010 all he has to do is point out that his counterpart got his money from the moon bats over this issue and his district will reelect just because.

People are so eager to find a ‘brave’ Congressman ... which has become a oxymoron. Shamefully.

Our congressman are acting like wimps. MO

Just wait until the election 2010. They will be surprised to find themselves “OUT” of being in the privileged few. MO..

Thanks to Joe Wilson for showing the way ... speaking out may become a fund raising source for his colleagues who can’t be moved by any other means.

Less than a day

More coming by mail from those of us who didn't need a tweet from his campaign in order to support him. And, BTW, I understand why he apologized for the venue of his statement, but would have been happier if he'd mentioned that the dems booed Pres. Bush during a SOTU address, which, in my view, is much worse.

Miller said he is aiming to top over $1 million in the next 24 hours, a total that dwarfs the $67,000 he has took in during the entire first half of the year.

Journalism - not to mention grammar - is dead on CNN. And everyone knows that the alleged $1M is coming from Soros.

To ridicule Rep. Wilson is the same as ridiculing the American people. He yelled out what we thought, in two simple words.
