Easleys got break on coastal lot
The News and Observer ^ | 09/11/2009 | Jay Price, J Andrew Curliss, Joseph Neff

Gov. Mike Easley and his wife, Mary, accepted a $137,000 discount on a coastal waterfront lot they bought in 2005, months after Easley's administration granted environmental permits to the developer of the Carteret County subdivision.

Easley did not report the 25 percent price break from R.A. North Development, on his state ethics disclosure forms; and his closing attorney, the mayor of Beaufort, did not report the discounted price on the deed registered with the county. It was recorded at the original sales price of $549,880.

I didn’t see a party affiliation so I looked him up and confirmed my suspicions. I’m quite sure if he’d been a Republican it would have been noted in the headline, the first sentence (of every paragraph) and several other times in the story.

Since the article does not mention the political affiliation of the ex-Governor, of course, I will save you the trouble of having to discover for yourself that he is a Democrat.

In North Carolina he was known as Gov Sleazley.
Here is hoping they send him to spend time with former speaker of the house in NC(Jim Black) who is in Federal Pen in Georgia.

In NC you don’t join the mob you join the Democrats.

Even better (for him)- good thing he is not guilty of being a Republican!

Otherwise he might have to go to prison for this

I’m in NC and have been following the work of Sleazley and his wife for years. This is just the tip of the iceberg (this story). I fully expect the bracelets and frog-walk on this one.

Sound like da Gov is a charter member of Obama & Dodd School of Real Estate. Investment principles for the well-positioned and morally bankrupt.

It is hard to believe North Carolina elected Sleazily not once, but twice. But, North Carolina is not the state that it used to be.

Well, it did say he was a Democrat, in the 5th paragraph, separated from his name: “Easley, a Democrat”

Two days ago, in the story about the guy in California who bragged about having sex with a lobbyist (a perfectly legal thing to do, just very morally wrong), they called him “A Republican Lawmaker” in the first sentence, before they even gave us his name.

The Big Easy’s malfeasance can be traced back to the “Don of NC Democrats”

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jim_Hunt

who successfully lobbied for and obtained a change in the North Carolina Constitution allowing him to serve four terms as Governor.

Except for two terms of Republican Governors, Democrats have ruled North Carolina politics for forty-three (43) straight years!

Folks are disenchanted with the Dem’s rule, but a combination of vote buying, a strong teacher’s lobby (NCAE) and inflating state government employment continually provides a buffer of Dem voters.

Oh, in many cases it is. I know old time Democrats that would vote for Fidel Castro for NC Governor if he was registered as a Democrat.

In other ways they are good folks. We converse at church and the coffee shop, play golf, root for the local HS teams together, but they think the Dems can do no wrong - in politics they wear blinders.
