Obama's unemployment shuffle: The job market keeps getting worse
washington Times ^ | September 11, 2009 | editorial

Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. said last week, "The Recovery Act has played a significant role in changing the trajectory of our economy and changing the conversation about the economy in this country." In lock step with the Obama administration, the media dutifully reports that job losses are getting smaller each month. This rosy outlook depends on a selective use of government data. In reality, the unemployment rate is rising.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics Household Survey data offer the broadest and most accurate short-term measure of the job market. They show that from February through August, the economy faced a net loss of 2.5 million jobs. In August alone, the number of people with jobs fell by 392,000. Instead of getting better, August experienced the worst reported drop during the last three months. Another 143,000 Americans gave up altogether and stopped looking for jobs, a status that doesn't count as unemployed for government statistical purposes.

This last number shows that the national unemployment rate is much worse than the official claim of 9.7 percent. During June, July and August, more than 1.1 million people decided to stop looking for jobs and thus are no longer considered part of the labor force. This is by far the largest drop in this category during this recession, and it's the fourth-largest drop over the past 35 years. The Department of Labor reported on Wednesday that July had the lowest number of new job openings since those numbers started being collected in 2000. . . .

Economic news has become bizarre. Listening to ‘commentators’ get giddy because the rate of growth has slowed down is now proof that ‘the worst is over’. Simply ridiculous.

Speaking to some of my liberal friends, they also giggle at the forced exuberance of some of these idiots on the news.

That should be rate of growth of a negative indicator.

You know it sucks to be Obama when you can only take credit for "saving" jobs! ROTFL!!!

Every other president we've ever had took credit for "creating" jobs. (Just as funny).

Let’s see what happens this holiday shopping season. If we are still in hard economic times it will show up then.

Yup and Bush was blasted for what 4.6 unemployment rate in 2006? and claims of recession! Now we have the highest unemployment rate since the Depression and the media celebrates it as an improvement. Emperor’s wardrobe again :(

The Obama Stimulus worked ok.
Stimulated Govt and the super rich bankers.

Obama Administration: Reverse Robin Hood: Steals from the poor (middle class anyway), to give to the rich.

Are’nt you inspired by Zer0? He’s employed an extra 44 advisors.

Michelle Zer0 is helping the employment situation with the employ of 26 servants.

If he hired another 10 million advisors he’d achieve
full employment!

As a fellow freeper pointed out so, um, vividly, on another thread;

A stuck pig bleeds profusely when first pierced. It then squeals and runs around until it cannot. The blood begins to slow, and then becomes a trickle, the pig lies dying. No one considers the slowing blood loss proof of the pig beginning to recover........

I think so, and there will be no way to spin that into good news.

The latest number of unemployment filings were down by 29,000 this month, to a mere 550,000.

Proof that the ObaMao economy HAS recovered. The recession is officially over, unemployed Americans rose .4% to 9.7%, after they cooked the books to keep the REAL figures buried.

Actual job losses are over 10 Million and rapidly still rising. Energy costs are going up faster every day, the treasury is bankrupt and operating on borrowed money, with more loans desperately waiting to be borrowed to keep up with the Democrat mania spending.

It's official; WE'RE SAVED!

When Black Friday turns up to be a Red Friday for a gaggle of merchants, there will be some ‘splaining to do, Lucy.

Smarter retailers will be focused on goods that offer more for less.

The Administration also noted today that they have saved us from one million terrorist attacks.

Well, not really, but it is certainly believable, given some of the ridiculous things they have actually claimed.
