Toronto - Air Canada is suing the Obama administration over a directive that bars the carrier from flying the Toronto Raptors, the Toronto Maple Leafs and Canada's other NHL teams between U.S. cities.
In a letter from August 11, the U.S. Department of Transportation required that Air Canada cancel its season-long sports charters.
The letter, which was filed in a federal court in Washington, D.C., referred to concerns of "cabotage" -- what it calls the prohibited carrying of passengers or cargo by a foreign airliner.
Air Canada said this directive has caused confusion and concerns among hockey teams, given that the NHL season will soon get underway.
According to court documents, the airliner said: "It is wreaking havoc on the hockey season, may damage the National Basketball Association season, and exposes Air Canada to claims from its customers. Air Canada seeks a declaration vacating this directive and requests relief in time to salvage at least part of the upcoming sports season."
The Anaheim Ducks have already ended the first year of its three-year contract with the airliner. Also, the St. Louis Blues and Boston Bruins have said they may seek other transportation as a result.

I never heard about this. Is this serious?
And these are the brilliant folks who want to manage health care ?
Let the Canucks fly their charters !
Yep.
All Prime Minister Stephen Harper has to do is to remind the Dear Comrade that on 9/11, Canada graciously took in any and all U.S. airliners that were ordered to the ground during the al Qaeda attack, provided housing and services for those travelers and crews who were stranded, much of that in private homes after the hotels filled, and then ask 0bama if he would like to explain to American, United, US Air, and all the other U.S. carriers WHY their planes will no longer be permitted to land at ANY commercial Canadian airport.
I would applaud that.

"guess they didn't make the drop"
Does Canada allow teams to fly between Canadian cities on US airlines? If so, I don’t understand what Bam is picking the fight over
It’s the US Airline UNIONS that don’t like the fact that the Canadian charters can fly between US cities. Canada charters for the teams CAN fly to one US city, but they may have another or two series of games in other US cities before scheduled to return to Canada.
Once again, Obama and his crew have stepped in it just to appease another UNION who wants the jobs of flying the foreign teams between US cities.
This is insane!
What’s the problem? Too many of you white people in Canada?
Well, we do try to tan in the summer, but hockey is a winter sport.
;-)
I wonder how many other countries think this president is an asshat?
Umm, this is Obama we’re talking about.
Most, probably.
Sorry.

If you want on or off the list, just let me know!
Nothing so harsh.
We will just call our players home.
