As President Obama addresses the nation on health care reform, a new analysis by the Center for Immigration Studies estimates that 6.6 million uninsured illegal immigrants could receive benefits under the House health reform bill (H.R. 3200). While the bill states that illegal immigrants are not eligible for the new taxpayer-funded affordability credits, there is nothing in the bill to enforce this provision. Congress defeated efforts to require the use of the Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements (SAVE) program. More than 70 other programs of this kind use SAVE.

Under H.R. 3200, a “Health Insurance Exchange” would begin operation in 2013 and would offer private plans alongside a public option. The Exchange would provide eligible individuals and small businesses with access to insurers’ plans, including the public option, in a comparable way. Individuals would only be eligible to enroll in an Exchange plan if they were not enrolled in other acceptable coverage (for example, from an employer, Medicare and generally Medicaid). H.R. 3200 does not contain any restrictions on noncitzens participating in the Exchange—whether the noncitizens are legally or illegally present, or in the United States temporarily or permanently. Nonetheless, only aliens who could be classified as resident aliens would be required under the bill to have health insurance.

On July 30 of this year, a House committee voted against a Republican amendment offered by Rep. Nathan Deal that would have required health care providers to use the Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements (SAVE) Program to prevent illegal aliens from receiving government health care services. All Republicans and five Democrats voted for it, but 29 Democrats voted against it, killing the amendment.
On the same day, the committee voted 30-29 against an amendment offered by Republican Joe Pitts explicitly stating that government health care would not cover abortions. Zealous abortion supporter Henry Waxman — a walking, breathing argument for abortion if ever there was one — originally voted in favor of the Pitts amendment because that allowed him, in a sleazy parliamentary trick, to bring the amendment up for reconsideration later. Which he did — as soon as he had enough Democrats in the hearing room to safely reject it.

IOW, unlike citizens and legal residents, who would be forced to have insurance, illegals could come and go as they please. If they need an expensive procedure they could pay the premium for a month, get the procedure, then stop paying for the insurance, leaving the rest of us to absorb the cost of their care (sound familiar)? Citizens would not have this luxury.

My sign for the Washington rally is “No Taxation Without Representation and No Representation Without Taxation”. I think we need to get a bill that makes you not eligible to vote unless you pay Federal taxes and State taxes. NOT just FICA. I think retired payers would be exempt and still allowed to vote. However, if we don’t start doing something, the 50% of us who do pay taxes are going to continue to be gouged by the freeloaders. The freeloaders have way too much power, without any financial liability. They complain, we pay.

Thanks! I truly doubt they want to cause too much trouble. If one of us gets hurt, we have many family that will take up arms and they know this. I added a small statement to bottom of sign, just in case the press is confused - “NO PAY, NO SAY”. Look for the short blond old lady.
