Dems heckled Bush, but Wilson was different

Joe Wilson's 15 minutes of infamy notwithstanding, Democrats were pretty rough on George W. Bush during a joint sessions a few years back.

Two examples:

In 2004, Democrats delivered a “Chorus Of Boos” during Bush's Bush’s State Of The Union when he called for renewal of the Patriot Act., according to the Washington Times.

In 2005, Dems howled, hissed and shouted "No!" when Bush pushed for Social Security reform in the SOU: "Foreshadowing the contentiousness of the coming debate, Democrats broke decorum and booed twice," according to the National Journal.

At the time, CNN's Bill Schneider remarked, “It was unusual. I had never heard it at least at that level before. The Democrats clearly were booing, heckling, saying no when the president talked about the crisis in Social Security."

Moreover, Obama's claim that illegal immigrants won't be covered -- which sparked Wilson's outburst -- while technically accurate, doesn't quite tell the entire story. Some of the bills being considered in the House and Senate contain provisions locking in local statutes that prevent providers from inquiring about immigration status prior to treatment. And illegals are treated, and are bound to be treated, in ERs, covered by local, state and federal uninsured pools.

So why the outcry over Wilson?

Glenn Thrush provides some historical background on Democrat disrespect to a sitting president during an address to a joint session of Congress.

Of course, this tool then proceeds to claim that Rep. Wilson's reaction was "worse" because of Wright's Law - all criticism of Hussein Obama's policies is based on racism and is personal.

I strongly suspect that Barack Obama was told “You lie!”, because he was lying, has lied, and will lie again.

What part of “Lie” was untrue?

Obama can kiss my Obama.

He’s slime mold.

He’s below the septic tank.

He sucks green Pelosi eggs.

Someone should do some research on previous joint sessions in history and if there were any vocal disagreements with the presidents.

I have to believe from history that those sessions had to be more raucous than today.

If he had said, “That’s not true” it would have been more akin to the treatment Bush got.
But saying “You Lie” is a direct personal attack - a bit different.
Even though he is the Liar-in Chief

The Lie was obvious to even the most casual observer. Maybe he just wasn’t suppose say verbally what everyone was thinking.

Exactly! This idiot should have stood his ground. After all, he merely told the truth about the muslim-in-chief.

I think it's because Congressional Republicans have used the health care debate to vent a deeper, uglier contempt for Obama that verges on the personal.

They've done little to discourage the party's fringes from questioning Obama's legitimacy to serve through the birther movement

Really? So it was never ugly or personal with Bush, eh?

So the Dims discouraged their party's fringe from going on for months and years about Bush's illegitimacy because of "stealing the election". Why, Mme Sec. herself made reference to Bush's illegitimacy only a couple of weeks ago.

Pfft. What nonsense.

He apologized for breaking the rule- not for what he said.
It was a rather Palinesque apology.

The entire story COULD have been told by our side but good ole' McCain chose not to when asked on The Today Show whether the claim was accurate. A resounding NO was all he could muster, which insures future invitations to get face time.

Watching that video is just a momentary morale booster but since he groveled at the feet of the almighty Zero and his minions, it’s irrelevant—and HE’S irrelevant (Wilson).

Back to real leadership with Palin and Bachmann, put them ON THE TICKET TOGETHER, and forget the Repubs, they’re worthless.
