Barack Obama's battle to save US health care reform
Telegraph (U.K.) ^ | September 9, 2009 | Toby Harnden

Democrats are mounting a last-ditch attempt to broker a bipartisan deal to reform America's health care system as Barack Obama prepares to address Congress.

The speech to Congress is seen as so important that it could make or break his presidency.

With Mr Obama's poll numbers slipping and public support for his health care overhaul eroding almost by the day, Senator Max Baucus, a fellow Democrat, drew up a compromise plan designed to appeal to centrists across the political divide.

Republicans have vigirously opposed a mooted extra tax burden on highers earners to pay for medical insurance for the poor. Under the new plan, non-profit co-operatives would be set up to compete with private health insurance companies.

This would replace the idea of introducing a so-called "public option" of government-run insurance, which is favoured by liberals.

The Baucus plan would cost about $900 billion (£550 billion) over 10 years - $100 billion less that the $1 trillion price tag on a previous House of Representatives proposal.

This would partly be achieved by raising $180 billion from taxing insurance companies that offer the most expensive packages.

All insurance companies would be charged an additional fee according to their market share. This is intended to help pay for the reform and exact a price from insurers, who stand to gain 46 million new customers - those who are currently uninsured.

Mr Baucus said that the plan was not a final one and that he hoped a deal might be reached before Mr Obama speaks to a joint session of Congress on Wednesday.

Mr Obama is following in the footsteps of President Bill Clinton, who addressed Congress in 1993 with a plea for health care reform to be passed. Although public support for his plan increased, he was ultimately unsuccessful.

*sigh*

Can they stop with this crap already? Everyone will be FORCED to buy insurance. Thats a burden on everyone.

These co-ops are going to be run by government, not the members, so they are NOT co-ops.

If Obama wants to "save" Health Care reform, then he needs to drop out of the picture. His reform is to destroy it and more and more people recognize this.

Besides, he has proven himself over and over again to not be credable, to not be trustworthy, and to out and out lie.

He did so again on Monday night (9/07/09) when he said that the GOP plan for Health Care was "to do nothing", that they, "didn't have a plan." When he knows good and well that they do, and that plans have been put forward in the House and the Senate that have been ignored by the DNC and by himself.

Our nation is in one of the fights of it's life. It is a fight ultimnately for our liberty and very life. It is a political fight, it is a fight of ideas, and it is a spiritual fight.

"For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places." - Ephesians 6:12

As time goes on, and as more and more Americans simply refuse to be quiet and accept what the Obama administration and the DNC leadership propose, the fact of the coupled physical and spiritual nature of it becomes more evident. The lies and deception of the Obama administration and the DNC leadership are becoming more and more apparent.

Here is what Obama said to the American people at a contrived "town hall" in New Hampshire on Tuesday, August 11, 2009.

"I have not said that I was a single payer supporter.” Pres. Barack Hussein Obama, Aug 11, 2009

Compare that to what he said while campaigning for the Senate to his union supporters, and was cheered while so doing:

“I happen to be a proponent of a single-payer universal health care program. I see no reason why the United States of America, the wealthiest country in the history of the world, spending 14 percent of its gross national product on health care, cannot provide basic health insurance to everybody. And that’s what Jim is talking about when he says everybody in, nobody out. A single-payer health care plan, a universal health care plan. That’s what I’d like to see. But as all of you know, we may not get there immediately. Because first we’ve got to take back the White House, we’ve got to take back the Senate, and we’ve got to take back the House.” - Barack Hussein Obama, June 30, 2003 to AFL-CIO

I guess he thinks he can say whatever he wants at any given time and it will be truth. That is the definition of a pathological liar.

OBAMA IS A MARXIST IDEOLOGUE

He and those around him and supporting him are drunk with power and control, and so they demonize the opposition, rather than seeing it for what it is, a massive outcry from the people of this nation, right before their very eyes, over their monstrosity plans for health care.

Their pronouncements and actions are like every other repressive, tin-horn regime in history. Label the opposition with exactly what they themselves are doing and then use the government controlled and co-opted press to spread that lie, and then use their thugs to try and enforce it and stamp out dissent.

Well, not any more in this country. The health care debate has blown the lid off and it's time to carry it through on this issue and every other similiar issue (like Cap & Trade, FOCA, etc.) that these wanna-be tyrants propose.

President Barack Hussein Obama said on August 7, 2009, that he expected the people who caused the financial and health care mess to be quiet, stand out of the way, and let it be fixed.

Well, Mr. President, if you do not want the people who created this mess standing in the way of fixing it, then you, Mr. Obama...and Pelosi, Reid, Dodd, Frank, et all had best step out of the way yourselves. Because you not only helped engineer the problems that ensured the fiasco...you are now intent on making it immeasurably worse in your drive towards abject marxism.

Didn’t the congressional townhalls teach them anything? If they pass ANY kind of health care reform/health insurance reform/ObamaCare or whatever there will be a civil war, plain and simple. As one of the signs said at a protest: You Can Jam It Down Our Throats in 2009, But We’ll Shove It Up Your A$$ in 2010!!

No Cap and Tax and No ObamaCare, PERIOD!!
