As Obama Speech Nears, Details on a Compromise
By JACKIE CALMES and ROBERT PEAR
September 7, 2009
WASHINGTON As President Obama and top advisers drafted his eagerly awaited health care speech to Congress, new details emerged Monday about fees and coverage limits under a proposal being floated by the chairman of a crucial Senate committee.
The proposal from the lawmaker, Senator Max Baucus, who heads the Finance Committee, would impose new fees on some sectors of the health care industry, but none on individuals, to help offset initial costs estimated at $880 billion over 10 years, according to officials familiar with the outline.
The plan, circulating among some committee members of both parties, would also offer the option of lower-cost insurance, with protection only against the costs of catastrophic illnesses, to those 25 and younger.
In addition, it would provide basic Medicaid coverage to millions of low-income people who are currently ineligible for the program, but the benefits would be less comprehensive than standard Medicaid.
Mr. Baucus, Democrat of Montana, will try on Tuesday to win support from the three Republicans and two other Democrats on his committee with whom he has been deliberating for months. Ultimately, however, he will need a majority of the committees 23 members, several of whom are resentful at being excluded.

NO!
“...would impose new fees on some sectors of the health care industry, but none on individuals...”
And the industry has promised not to pass the new fees on to individuals, I’m sure. BS—NO DEAL!
Grassley and Enzi promised not to sign on to anything the Republican Caucus was not fully behind. They had better keep their promise.
NO COMPROMISE!
Kill the bill — the whole bill!
I think this is wishful thinking from the WAPO to gin the temperature up for Ozero's big speech.

Obama Says A Baby Is A Punishment
Obama: If they make a mistake, I dont want them punished with a baby.
We need to call those Republicans and tell them No Compromise. No bill.
I stipped reading at this phrase because it made me look to see the source. Oh yeah, NY Times, idolizing Obama again.
What a joke. These increased fees will be passed on to beneficiaries, raising our costs. So much for the promise of providing "quality affordable health care for all" at lower prices.
I’m not going to sign-up at the NYT to read the rest of the article.
NO, Just say NO, Heck NO, NO way and in other words, “NO IS NO.”
They will get the Republicans they want.
If I had been eagerly awaiting 0’s healthcare speech, he ruined the mood with his belligerent permanent campaign mode today. He was out there “inoculating” better than Hillary herself. “Y’know, some’ll say we’re out to pull the plug on Grandma...” As long as 0 is channeling Alinsky, I’m not listening.
When LBJ made his "We will pass this bill" speech in 64 which became the Civil Rights Act he knew Hugh Scott, Ken Keating and other GOPers had already agreed to vote to stop the Southern Democrat filibuster threat. LBJ came outlooking determined and powerful but he had a full hand before the speech. Obama has nothing in hand and is depending on his oratory and the sycophance of the media. It won't be enough. Pride goeth before the Fall.
The two old girls in Maine should be asked to change their party affiliation to Independent so as to not be counted with the GOP vote.
Mr. Baucus, I find you GUILTY of ECONOMIC ILLITERACY and sentence you to 100 hours of Economics 101 instruction under the tutelage of Dr. Walter Williams.

Brilliant! Walter Williams is one of my favorite people.
No compromise.
