Myth exposed: Mombasa was NOT part of Zanzibar in 1961!
Historical maps of Africa ^ | self

I do not purport to take a stance on the Obama birth certificate controversy, save to say that his refusal to release the full document is suspicious. I do take issue with falsehoods being put up in Obama's defense though. One of those falsehoods is currently being used to "debunk" the rumor that Obama was born in Mombassa, Kenya instead of Hawaii. The false claim is that Mombassa was part of Zanzibar in 1961 when Obama was born, and it is being repeated without scrutiny by the slothful mainstream media.

As with so many things about Obama, this claim is false. Mombassa and Zanzibar were both part of the British Protectorate of East Africa in 1961. Zanzibar is an island 30 miles off the coast of Africa and well south of Kenya. Mombassa was briefly a part of Zanzibar in 1963 due to the partitioning and independence of Great Britain's various colonial holdings. It was ceded to the newly formed nation of Kenya later that year. In 1961 though, Mombassa was definitely part of the British East African Protectorate and had been for over half a century.

A little history of Mombassa:

Mombassa, a prominent port city, was formally annexed by the Sultan of Zanzibar in 1887. As British presence grew in the region of what would become Kenya, the Sultan formally reliquished the administration (though not title of land) to Mombassa to Britain in 1887. In 1890 the Heligoland-Zanzibar Treaty between Britain and Germany gave Zanzibar and all its holdings to Britain. The last resistance against British rule on Zanzibar island was quashed in the Anglo-Zanzibar war of 1896, and the puppet administration Britain installed there formally gave up any claim to Mombassa in 1898. Mombassa remained firmly in British hands until Zanzibar's independence in 1963 shortly before Kenya's. This includes the time when Barack Obama was born. Not only that, but Mombassa was actually the CAPITAL of British East Africa from 1898 to 1905, before it was moved to the present capital of Nairobi.

A simple glance at any historical map of Africa reveals that the claims about Mombassa being a part of Zanzibar are a myth (largely because Mombassa and Zanzibar were BOTH part of the British East Africa protectorate at this time in history). Simply look at the following images and see for yourself. Mombassa is on the mainland just west of the 40 degree longitude and the 4 degree latitude intersection.

1876 pre-British map of Africa - Mombassa (known as Mombas) is part of Zanguebar (Zanzibar)

1892 German Map of Africa - Mombassa (listed as Mombas) is part of "Brit. Ost-Afrika" and "Sansibar" is a British Protectorate. This map was drawn shortly after Britain acquired Zanzibar, and thus Mombassa, in 1890

1895 Map of Africa - Shows Mombassa, along with the island of Zanzibar, as part of British East Africa.

1900 Map of Africa - Mombassa is part of British East Africa

1911 British East Africa Map - Shows Mombassa in British East Africa (the island of Zanzibar is also included as a British protectorate)

1913 Map of Africa - Mombassa is part of British East Africa

1922 Map of Africa - Mombassa is part of Kenya Colony, British East Africa

1960 National Geographic Map of Africa - Africa as it approximately appeared at the time of Obama's birth. Mombassa is part of "Keyna, U.K." as is Zanzibar Island.

Here are several additional historical maps of Africa showing Mombassa. Each proves that the claim about Mombassa being a part of Zanzibar at Obama's birth is a myth.

So to put it another way, saying Mombasa was part of Zanzibar in 1961 is like saying Hong Kong was part of China in 1961.

DOJ To Judge: Dump Ambassador Keyes Lawsuit

http://www.theobamafile.com/ObamaLatest.htm

Obama is using DOJ attorneys to represent him personally. I would think that is illegal. But Obama is obviously using those attorneys to bully the judge who made them answer the suit.

This is a PERSONNEL issue for Obama, and the DOJ has no standing to be representing him whatsoever.

Yeah, pretty much. Sort of like the English flag was raised on Hong Kong island in 1841 but the treaty wasn’t signed until the following year. Or like my grandmother was born and raised in the same house but borders changed several times so it might seem like her family was constantly moving. These things take time. The arguments that Kenya wasn’t a country when Hussein was born don’t hold water.

0bama never refutes the accusations. He just hires attorneys to keep from having to answer questions under oath and publicly.

One would have to be spectacularly ignorant of African history to think Mombasa was not part of Kenya in 1961.

There's STILL some more to this story. Freepers exposed this weeks ago — see more here and read forward (on the LONG 10,000-plus post thread).

According to additional research on this subject, there's additional complexities to this chapter of east African history, but it is mostly-correct to say Mombasa was NOT fully Zanzibar Sultan-owned, as it was under dispute by the Sultan, the Germans, the Brits and the even the Locals who felt the area was an autonomous and sovereign state. Since the MSM, DemocratUnderground and KOS use WIKI as their primary reference, it's of little wonder they are so misinformed.

A very important aspect of this is that Mombasa lies is what is known as the ten-mile strip. It is a VERY LITTLE KNOWN FACT that it became sovereign approximately two months BEFORE Kenya gained its independence — SEE THE LAST PARAGRAPH AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS POST.

Via various agreements, the Brits leased the strategically-important Ten-Mile Strip coastal region from the Sultan of Zanzibar for £11,000 per year in 1895 — the Germans also had it under agreement with the Sultan in 1890. The Sultan RETAINED OWNERSHIP despite occupation by the British, which made the area UNIQUE from the other lands in the British and German Protectorates.

Mombasa is on the bottom right of THIS map:
Photobucket

Here's some more here:
Photobucket

Lastly, this is from a VERY IMPORTANT portion of an Official Kenyan Report on this matter:
The Constitution of Kenya Review Commission - [Cached Version]

Robertson further recommended that the British Government abrogate the 1895 Agreement with the Sultan of Zanzibar and that another Agreement be made between the Government of Kenya and the Sultan of Zanzibar whereby the Sultan of Zanzibar will surrender his Sovereignty claims over the Coastal strip in consideration of the Kenya Government undertaking to respect and safeguarding inter alia the maintenance of the Sharia Law for Muslims and the retention of the Kadhi’s Courts.
...
On the 5th October 1963, the said Agreement was actually executed in the form of an exchange of letters between the Prime Ministers of Kenya and Zanzibar Messrs Jomo Kenyatta and M. Shamte respectively.

Do a google book search http://books.google.com/
for “Coast Province General Hospital”

The results will prove that the hospital did exist in 1961.

The White House didn’t need to vet Jones. He was well-known to Obama and his associates, and they are fully complicit and in agreement with his leftist agenda.

A quick thought on determining the authenticity of the alleged ebay birth certificate (http://www.wnd.com/images/misc/lucassmithkenyabirthcertificate.jpg ) - find an authentic signature of James A.W. Ang'awa. This might not be as hard as it seems to someone who knows where to research. Ang'awa was a fairly prominent doctor in Kenya's early post-independence years. He was a medical advisor to Kenya's Olympics team and studied medicine in the late 50's at the Welsh National Medical School in Cardiff.

Either might be a place to start for research, as both likely have records on him. Locating a signature for comparison would probably go a long way to validating or disproving this certificate, because it is obscure enough that it would be difficult to forge but not so obscure that it cannot be verified at all.

This bogus "African Birth Certificate" doesn't say "British Protectorate of East Africa", ergo, it's a fraud. QED.
