Today isn’t just Labor Day, it’s the last day–forever–of the historic Michigan State Fair. Yes, it’s a sad day in Michigan history. And a sad day for me, given the great family memories I have of attending the State Fair, and given the State’s Muslim-funding priorities.
Michigan’s Tax-Funding Priorities: OUT . . .
This is the 161st and last year of the State Fair because Michigan’s Governor Jennifer Granholm a/k/a “the Governatrix Gran-HO” and legislators announced they will no longer subsidize the fair, a tribute to Michigan’s largest industry: agriculture. Gran-HO announced that Michigan doesn’t have the money to pick up the losses, as it annually does for the State Fair. The amount was $360,000 in 2008.
Yet, while the State claims it’s slicing the budget everywhere and making “sacrifices” like the Fair, Michigan taxpayers somehow have plenty of money for Granholm’s Muslim friends and left-wing artists.
It’s sad for me because I have great memories of my Dad taking me and my siblings to the Fair when we were kids. He took us to see the livestock and produce and the independent farmers who make those their living because he wanted us to appreciate the hard work of the farmers around our state and how they were the backbone of much of Michigan living. As an adult, I took my little brother (12 years my junior) to the fair to show him the same and treat him to rides and other fun stuff.
But it’s even sadder, when you consider that Michigan–amid deficits and an ever-sinking desperate economy–gave hundreds of thousands of dollars to left-wing and Muslim artists through arts grants, and that it gave far more to the anti-Israel, Muslim-dominated Arab American National Museum and the Muslim-run Arab Community Center for Economic and Social Services (ACCESS).

Why doesn’t Granholm just go to Al Qaeda and the Taliban and ask them to sponsor the State Fair this year?

Unreal. Some of my fondest and educational memories comes from attending the state fair. Talk of learning about the “diversity” of one’s state . .

I love the State Fair. Maybe if they would move it to the State Capital, Lansing, instead of in Detroit, it WOULD make money.

Good point, but 161 years of tradition should take precedence over the misallocations of funds for god knows what. Does Michigan want the fair?
I don’t think the Government is “cutting spending” in this article. They’re just taking the same money away from the people who made it in the first place but giving it to their left-wing cause of the moment, which in this case is Islam.

I keep telling myself she is not evil. Just another follower of a completely misguided and fundamentally wrong political ideology, shaded by an utter contempt for the good that a healthy and competitive free enterprise business environment can do, did do throughout the past, and someday will do again.

I think Debbie S. has hit upon a great issue here, though she doesn’t seem to have furnished all the details-—but if her facts are right, this is potential political dynamite——money basically that would have and always HAS gone to a tradition , part of the lives of generations of Michiganders, is being cut away, but taxpayer money going to THE SPECIAL INTERESTS OF MUSLIM ASSOCIATIONS AND CAUSES REMAINS INTACT?????!!! On the face of it , it’s an outrage, and IT OUGHT TO BE THROWN IN THE FACE OF THE CuRRENT GOVERNOR! This is how political points are made, and moral deadwood removed from “representative” Government. Why not just open with a pointed question as to just how much taxpayer money EXACTLY has gone to fund Islamic/Muslim causes, and how much to the Fair? THEN take it from there as far as what points to make.
I would think in this day and age that a so called state fair would be its own self-sponsoring organzation rather then a state sponsored event. I don’t think Massachusetts has a state fair, we have local fairs and I believe they are their own enterprises. I wouldn’t want the state to run our fairs because all the profits would go elsewhere rather then for the benefit of running the fair which of course would eventually lead to the demise of a state sponsored fair.
