Some Washington pundits are developing a new narrative for President Obama: the coming of the centrist. Its a narrative that expects history to repeat itself; something history rarely does.
Its along these lines:
The shellacking that the president and his Democrats are taking on health care reform, the stimulus, and cap and trade will grind these and other initiatives to a halt. Democrats will lose one or both houses of Congress in November 2010. Republican majorities will serve as a useful counterbalance to a president whose hard left will continually nip at his heels. A chaste president will govern from the center. Doing so, Mr. Obama will be reelected. His second term will be filled with sensible compromises between congressional Republicans and himself.
Seem familiar?
Could it turn out that Mr. Obama does a reprise of the Clinton presidency? Its possible, but is it likely?
The answer may well be no. Of course, the world is very different from the world that President Clinton inhabited in the last full year of his presidency (2000). It was a pre-9/11 world. The nations dynamics have changed markedly, and not for the better. The country is in the deepest recession since the late 1970s and early 1980s. America is embroiled in an ongoing war against terrorism.

I think Obama has a clear agenda and cares nothing about reelection. He wants to implement his socialist agenda at all cost.
He doesn’t know where the center is and he has no advisors that would let him!
We’re in a Depression, not a recession. This will become evident next year. In retrospect, I’m kind of glad that Obama and the Democrats will be saddled with this rather than us.
He wants to implement his racist redistributionist agenda at all cost. Look at the favored constituencies who benefit from the policies, as well as teh policies themselves. He's as much a racist as a socialist.
I agree! Bill Clinton never governed AR as a liberal — his wife was the far left person in that marriage. His natural tendencies were more of a centrist in the Dem Party which is a liberal Republican.
ZERO is FAR LEFT period! He never has been a centrist and if you review his speeches, you will see that he used the words of Malcolm X in Philly as his speech.
With the advisers he has, he thinks he’s AT the center.
No.
It’s against his religion
I think he cares about his reelection.
He probably knows (or maybe not after all) that a one-termer President in American history will never be popular.
A one-termer President is always a “loser”, so to speak.
Van Jones = Frank Davis = Bill Ayers = Bernardine Dohrn = Jeremiah Wright = Tony Rezko = Rashid Khalidi = Raila Ordinga = Carol Browner = Rahm Emanuel = Henry Gates = John Holdren = Rosa Brooks = Eric Holder = Ezekiel Emanuel = BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA
Nope.
This is who the man is. A cauldron of corruption, greed, marxism and communism...with disturbing ties to Islam.

In one sense, his tack to the far left in 2009 is to get things done for his base, and then plan to tack to the right in 2010 for the elections. However, watch if he does indeed tack to the right... if he does, it will be for the congressional elections. But, if he does not, it will be because he plans to take “elections” to a new precedent. This is why looking thru the sight glass of Honduras, attitude to Amadinajad’s “election”, and policy vis-a-vis Israel, is so prescient.
>>>>Will Obama Move to the Center ?<<<<
Just about as much of a chance that Reagan could have turned Marx.
This guy is truly a lost cause.
0bama is what has been referred to as a fanatic - that is someone who can not be persuaded change his mind and refuses to change the subject.
Move to the “center?” No, it’s not in his nature.
Don’t forget that Bill Clinton had a GOP legislature to deal with for most of his presidency and even if he had wanted to do something extreme, had little chance of getting away with it. There’s nothing stopping Obama, on the other hand. Not only Dems, but radical Dems, are in charge of both houses now.
I think the only “centrist” thing Obama might do is rename his programs and go about trying to achieve them a little less directly. He’ll even do that only as long as we the people keep on complaining and we still have enough of a free press and Internet to make it public.
Still, the effect will be the same ultimately. But slowing him down may give us a chance to retake the legislature, and that might help in the long run.
Personally, I think he’s at a crossroads now: he will either try to be a little less obvious - or he’ll simply go on the attack, find some way of shutting us up, and impose the Third World revanchiste Marxism of his dreams.
Clinton was a somewhat intelligent man without morals.
The Obamaloon is an idiot without anything.
"Social Justice" = racism.
"Economic Justice" = reparations.
Coming to a community near you.
Will obama move to the center? I don’t think so. Why would he? If he implements all his goals, he won’t have to - real elections won’t be taking place three years from now. He’s here to implement change, you know. What a horribly chilling momemt when obama announced that fundamental change was coming to America - and clueless Americans just cheered their own demise.
This is a good article, and I think scratches the surface of 0bama’s thinking.
He would gladly sacrifice Democrat majorities, particularly these white “Blue Dogs” who are barely tolerated to begin with, if it means leaving his stain on American history with his promise of fundamental ‘CHANGE’ to the American way of life.
He does have one glitch to work out, which is he knows to be a ‘Great’ president, (and to protect what he imposes) he needs to be reelected.
So far, his plan appears to have been written by Underwear Gnomes.
It looks something like this:
1) Push radical, unpopular agenda on an unwilling and increasingly hostile populace
2) ????
3) Ride a wave of adulation and support to reelection
Hussein forces are planning the most breathtaking election fraud and intimidation in the nations history. Voting in 2010 will be an exercise in courage. Don’t look for this thug to lighten up on his Marxist agenda for the purpose of appeasing future voters. They will be PREVENTED form voting, pure and simple. The American people had better be prepared, for complaining the day after the election will be met with laughs.
All Bill Clinton wanted was power, privilege, money, and a good time. He had no real political views. Hillary was an Alinskyite, but after the health care fiasco she lost much of her direct influence.
Obama, on the other hand, is a dedicated communist, Muslim postcolonialist, who hates what he thinks of as the White Oppressors and is determined to destroy them.
