Advertisers Continue to abandon Glenn Beck after Pundit had called President Obama a 'Racist'

Mercedes-Benz, Capital One, HSBC, Discover and seven other big firms are yanking their ads from Beck's show, boycott organizers said Wednesday.

"We applaud those companies that have recently pulled their support from Beck," James Rucker, executive director of ColorOfChange.org, said Wednesday.

"There are at least 57 companies who will not tolerate Beck's race-baiting comments."

The African-American political group went after Beck for declaring on his July 28 show that Obama is a racist with a "deep-seated hatred for white people or the white culture."

About 145,000 members signed a petition asking Beck's advertisers to stop supporting him. And big companies like retailing giant Wal-Mart, Procter & Gamble, GMAC Financial Services, Best Buy, CVS and Travelocity complied.

As for Olbermann, I don’t believe I’ve ever seen/heard him, and from what I’ve heard, I don’t think I want to.

It's worth your while to check out Olbermann at the end of his show when he names that night's Worst Person in the World.

People need to see what NBC is putting on the air. The rants and hate speech coming from Olbermann are shocking.

I never understood the Left's obsession with Fox News.

I find that I can take it or leave FNC for the most part, but for the Left it's the sine qua non of the Right, and it somehow it goes away, the scales will suddenly fall from our eyes and America will suddenly realize how glorious Communism is, and how we need to immediately collectivize the nation.

It’s hard to explain this to the democrat you work with, but democrats in the media or in academia don’t actually want free speech, if it comes from conservatives. They prove it over and over.

Hmm. Matches the 57 Islamic states, eh? (only half-grin)

What they're not mentioning is the responding Buy-cott ... those of us who support Beck who will make an extra effort to support his advertisers.

Hell, if I could afford it, I’d advertise on Beck’s show!

Glenn Beck has Jones reeling, on the ropes, and running for cover. He can run but he can't hide. Seems to me Beck is destroying Van Jones here, not the other way round.

Van Jones will not be a part of this administration, thanks to Glenn.

“Will someone out there tell me why the Market doesn't seem to be working in Cable News? It's as if everything I've ever learned about markets is invalid”

But the market IS working on cable news.
From News International’s(parent company of Fox) earnings report:
Wednesday, Aug 05
“”******Chairman Rupert Murdoch singled out the success of Fox News Channel in his release:

The FOX News Channel (FNC) operating income, as compared to the prior year, increased 50% for both the fourth quarter and the full year, primarily from increased affiliate revenues. For the full year, FNC primetime ratings were up 45% compared with the same period a year ago.
And Fox News continues on a ratings tear this week. On Monday night and again last night, FNC beat the combined prime time averages, in both Total Viewers & A25-54 viewers, of MSNBC and CNN.

In fact last night, “The O’Reilly Factor” (on cable TV) averaged 3.67 million Total Viewers at 8pmET topping the 8pm average of 2.91M on ABC (on broadcast TV), with “Superstars.”******
http://www.mediabistro.com/tvnewser/fnc/fox_news_a_bright_spot_in_bleak_news_corp_earnings_report_123607.asp

Fox News IS making record profits. And Fox News profits DID go up by 50% for both the last quarter and for the entire year, despite the worst recession for over 70 years.
That's market forces working right there for ya. Give consumers a product they want, and you make good money.

"...but recently he’s morphed into something that’s more of a liability than an asset."

Yet his ratings are higher at 5PM Eastern than some Primetime Network Shows at the 8PM slot.(Which is just short of phenomenal as far as TV ratings go)

Not sure how you are defining liability but the definition I am familiar with does not jibe with your assertion.

Beck will gone the end of the year.

No one with ratings like Beck's is going anywhere. Unless he wants to.

That is called remnant advertising. You just say stick the ad in when ever you can and you get a discount rate.

OTOH, with the number of viewers he has, specifically being a sponsor has to command significant bucks. He’s worth serious money to FOX.

Isn't James Rucker one of Obama's thug buddies?

Why are American companies letting themselves be jerked around by low IQ racists organizations?

We must befend Beck at every opportunity...the Commies, thugs, racists, unions and the Democrats supporters are all in a full-court-press to 'get' Beck.

Get on your phones and emails to these sponsors.

Okay Joe, You convinced me that Fox is kicking *ss. I already know this. I'm one of those watching and I try to make a point of buying products from advertisers.

But the flip side of this is how are CNN and MSNBC hanging on. I'm particularly interested in MSNBC as I consider them the worst of the worst.

Nobody watches that Network other than to occasionally check in to see if the train wreck is still ongoing. Can they be making a profit? How can they possibility pay Olbermann 9 million/year? (can this possibly be true?) Madness! Have they found a way to make money with very low ratings? This would be my best guess. If not then who is bankrolling this organization? I'm more interested in this than Fox's success. That's easily understood.

I think his recent behavior has made him a liability to the causes he’s promoting, because it’s more likely to drive people away from belief in those causes, than towards them. Those of us who are already firmly committed to fighting socialism — whether it’s naionalized health care, the “fairness doctrine”, or whatever — aren’t going to be swayed by him, even if we don’t like his current tone. But we don’t matter. What matters is the potential converts to the cause — the people who aren’t really sure what they think about these issues. Those people are less likely to develop a belief in and commitment to these causes, if they see them expoused by someone who’s behaving like a smarmy televangelist, or if they hear their friends ridiculing specific comments which he really has made. We can only advance our political goals by drawing new people into sharing them, and that’s what Beck is no longer doing (though I think he *has* done quite a bit of it in the past, and I certainly hope he resumes doing it soon).

Not only that. On local TV, especially in the heartland of America and in the south, where Beck is extremely popular, smart businessmen, can sponsor spots on Glenn Beck's show, with tag lines like “Proud Sponsor of Glenn Beck”, and see their business go through the roof.
Plus even when ads are not specifically aired on Beck, the 3 million viewers that Beck brings to Fox, inevitably spill over onto subsequent programs, which then make even more money for Fox. There is simply no other program on cable news that even comes close tio Glenn Beck in ratings, and few programs on networks news that do.

Mr. 0bama might be a racist, but I don't think so. He's a marxist (lower case on purpose). Proved, beyond a shadow of a doubt.

0bama hates anything to do with Capitalism. White or black, yellow or brown, doesn't matter.

The reckoning is coming, be prepared. It will get ugly, very ugly.

That’s funny I’ve seen all f those advertiser’s in the last week running during Beck’s time slot. I honestly think the left is making a much bigger deal about this boycott than it really is. BTW those advertisiers should understand that those loining in Mom’s basment or on the government dole aren’t spending money on their products!

Didn't GE(MSNBC’s parent company), receive billions of dollars from 0bamafurher's PORKULUS/”bailout” money?
And isn't the GE CEO in cahoots with Zero to rip off as much tax payer dollars as they can? Looks to me like you scratch my back, 'll scratch yours deal to me.
Plus MSNBC and CNN still make profits, albeit not as much as Fox, so as long as GE is making money on MSNBC, and Olbermann continues to be the highest rated show on MSNBC, they are going to continue to retain the lunatic Olbermann.
