After two successive elections that have exposed the Republican Party to ridicule for its lack of diversity and narrow demographic appeal, the GOP suddenly finds itself with an unexpected bounty.
From the West Coast to the East Coast, in some of the smallest and largest states in the nation, the party is currently fielding an unusually diverse crop of serious statewide candidates drawn from the seemingly endless list of constituencies the GOP lost in 2008notably women, Latinos, African Americans, Asian Americans and young people.
Electing just a few of these prospects would give the party a dramatic facelift and go a long way toward addressing its long-running diversity deficit, though it may not alter any of the underlying ideas that may be contributing to the gap.
Under the right conditions, the GOP could end up in 2011 with female governors in the two largest states in the nationCalifornia and Texas. Or with a black senator from Texas, an Hispanic female governor in New Mexico, a Colorado governor in his early 30s and two Indian American governors in the Deep Southone of them female.

Yeah let’s put a few more non-whites in the whitehouse they are doing a great job there\s
Let’s hope they are all for individual liberty and less government, and will act upon it. Otherwise. the GOP will just continue to be an unreasonable facsimile of the Democrat party.
Bobby Jindal. Sarah Palin, Mike Steele, JC Watts, Clarence Thomas, Colin Powell etc etc etc. Amazing how bigotedly ignorant the political propagandists at the Leftist websites like Politco continually demonstrate themselves to be.
It seems to work for the Democrats ...
And we DO want to be just like the Democrats ... don't we??
Please do not post commie propaganda on FR.
Let’s hope CONSERVATIVES of whatever dumbass democrat invented group get elected.
NO MORE identity politics.
As soon as I see “diversity”, I know we’re going the wrong way. By embracing the “diversity” notion, we allow the left to define terms again, to separate everyone by race, and that’s a game they are going to win. This has to be about ideas and integrity, regardless of all this diversity crap. We have the dumbest group of ‘leaders’ in the republican party, perhaps ever.
I highly doubt running minority candidates is going to help the GOP win “minority” votes. Most minorities vote for whoever gives them the most goodies.
It would make more sense for the GOP to pander to whites seeing as they are the only race of people who Republican in the aggregate. The Rats will always outpander the Pubs in attracting the non-white vote.
We have the exact same thing here in Canada. Minorities vote overwhelmingly for the leftist parties up here.
Are these new faces attached to people who are leaders? Do they believe in the same principles and philosophies as did the founders of this country and the framers of our Constitution? Can they effectively lead the masses to understand and accept those principles, and effectively counter the attacks of the collectivists?
Let's focus on what matters, folks. Ideally, race should be irrelevant, but in the real world it does affect the marketing of our worldview—but that only matters if the important questions above have satisfactory answers.
As long as they are conservatives I couldn’t care less what they look like. All conservatives look equally American in my book.
Obozo Republcians are funny, they should follow the tea party lead, and err, uhh, ahh, lead for a change. Lead with their values and principles, if any of them have any of thoe left. Who says minorties just want handouts, not the ones I know, they want opportunity, like real Americans do.
Targeting minority recruitment is a losers game.
The problem with intellectually insecure whites

How bout they take their “diversity” and shove it up their butts. Leave the race based politics to the democrats and run on conservative ideals.
What the GOP has to show is that their policies work for everyone. When the double digit inflation and high interest rates of the Carter years ended, they ended for everyone. When the Cold War ended, it ended for everyone. Welfare Reform worked for everyone.
I think the message needs to be that everyone benefits when the GOP wins.
There is no such thing as diversity if we don’t have diversity of OPINION and PERSPECTIVE. A bunch of differnt colored people who all think the same is not diversity.
Great to see you post an article by a leftard racial theorist, it adds so much.
