"You demoted him!"

I saw my first BUFF in Guam when I was on my way to Chu Lai Viet Nam.

I think that was about December 20th 1966.

(several lifetimes ago)

LOL

A very long time ago in a galaxy very far away, I live in Omaha Neb. near the Offet AFB. They held a drill and every BUFF took off! What a sight to behold, it was then I knew it was the sound of freedom!

Then, when I was back in my beloved CORPS stationed in Yuma, Az. I was posted at the “hot spot” [a rapid response post in the middle of the airfield] & after the Yuma air show we had a B-52 take off and the wings passed right over out P 19 crash fire rescue truck. We were really rocking & rolling then!

Right - It would be better if they were “new” B-52’s - or even better - B’1’s! - than just a single sqdn change.

By the way, doesn’t further “consolidation” into fewer bases mean even MORE vulnerability to a drive-by (Iranian/Russian/Chinese/NK) nuclear truck bomb? ?

Did you know that Dan was an Army Infantry First Sergeant in the Korean War?

That rotary launcher is something else.

I'd like to see a few Grand Slam (or Tallboy) bombs loaded as mountain movers in Afghanistan. Lift enough dirt and rocks “up and over” and you don't need extreme accuracy in target location or millimeter accuracy by on-site laser designation by ground troops and spotter craft.

They wouldn’t even be able to find Minot.

It is even further out in the sticks than nothing.

Served at K.I. Sawyer AFB, Michigan during the mid Seventies. We were a SAC Base that housed B-52s and KC-135 tankers.

Loved listening to the engine run-ups, and the smell of jet fuel early in the mornings. Watching them take off was a thrill that will never leave me.

I heard of reports of B-52 pilot discovering by aircraft serial number that his grandfather flew the very same aircraft. It would be possible I guess, but I have not seen any actual story to verify it.

I know of some father-son and uncle-nephew (and apparently there is now an uncle-niece) pairs that flew in B-52s, but only one confirmed case where it was the same aircraft. Like somebody else pointed out - the original B-52s are either scrapped, in the boneyard, or museum pieces.

OK all you heavy flyer's get ready, you are now going to learn what the term winter means. -45 degrees with a 60 mile and hour wind/ tighten up your crupper.

Having been stationed in Alaska and then later on in North Dakota, I'll take Alaska. I still have no idea why people voluntarily live in North Dakota.

Personally I would take the B-52s - outstanding uptime and a much more versatile platform over the B-1s.
