Fox News host sparks outrage
Financial Times ^ | 09/02/2009 | Edward Luce

If the White House is trying to figure how it lost control of the debate over healthcare in August, it could take a look at Glenn Beck’s television and radio ratings. The conservative talk radio host, who also has an hourly slot on Fox News every day, has seen his viewer numbers soar even as opponents have pressed companies to withdraw advertising from the show.

Replace Glenn Beck with Rush Limbaugh and it’s 1993 all over again.

And even earlier in 92, as Clinton was gaining momentum and got the nod, but yes, I do see similarities. Glenn is helped out by having these people around 0bama even more arrogant than the Clinton FOB's, (if that's possible), he has the advantage of being able to use not just print but video to demonstrate, prove his contentions about the advi-czars, they've allowed themselves to be recorded all over the place, where Rush was a bit more limited in what media he had available to him early on in that game.

For me Beck gets a bit too conspiratorial. An example this AM was he is alluding to the fact that there is some catastrophic event heading our way that will enable Bam to become the new Chavez, a dictator. Maybe this is true, but not sure it helps him.

This is a better way to say what I meant about toning down the dramatics. I tend to write off conspiracy theories on a grand scale. I actually believe there are hidden agendas and this administration uses strategy, smoke and mirrors and slight of hand to get from point A to point B with the intent of fooling or gaming the people and system. But there is a fine line of what an audience will regard as truth and respect if the messenger does not maintain credibility.

Glenn Beck is my favorite for now. I just worry about the label that could be coming if he gets any more "fringy" in the eyes of the audience.

Looks like Glenn Beck will join Savage in the banned-from-Britain club.

Love him! Glenn Beck has a great way of presenting facts. A few years back our local talk FM station had a delayed broadcast of his, and I would just howl with laughter with his stories and just the way he reported the events. The station, in their wisdom, replaced him with Hannity. No offense to Hannity, but he’s NO Beck!) I was so glad when he had his show on CNN. He caused quite a firestorm over there with his series on Islamofascism and “The Perfect Day”.

The same station brought him back just recently, so I listen to him every morning.

We just bought a DVR so I will never miss the Glenn Beck Show. At least until the Fascist-er-White House shuts him down.

I think some of the folks mistake his personality, manner of delivery for "high drama" -- he's got a long history of entertainment jobs, including a seat at the bar in Boston:

Glenn on "Cheers"

I did catch the part about Rock the Vote. My wife was confused about why this is such a big issue. I explained it to her this way. Suppose we had a wealthy family member that donated money for a cause to feed homeless people because that is what we wanted to do and it was charitable. We get to use the donation for our mission and anything extra we can do at our discretion when ministering to these people. All is well. What if the wealthy family member then called a meeting to tell us that we needed to feed the homeless only Kentucky Fried Chicken and we should not ever discuss religion? Now, what if that wealthy relative were Colonel Sanders? What if Colonel Sanders had collected this money from vegetarians? Do you see the conflict in interest? Especially since all the donations are tax deductions and used in marketing?

Rock the vote is a political group, not an "Art" group of any kind. They are activists partially funded by the government, apparently.

You are correct, and sometimes Beck crosses that line. He does a nice job now uncovering the facts about the administration and the Czars that Bam has selected. Not sure it really helps him to go beyond that.

Rahmbo is not above setting him up for a fall where he gets discredited or even laughed off the air. They did that to Drudge way back when he thought he had a scoop on Clinton's DNA and the dress.

Beck knows this, but cannot help himself, he thinks he is doing the right thing. Stu and Pay Gray (sp) are also pretty savvy, my guess is they talk about this all the time.

As Beck seems to be a key guy presenting the evil nature of Bam etal, hope he sees it coming when they set him up for the fall.

Yup.

A party line guy. But the standard Republican schtick is getting old and tired.

I actually think he was better alongside Colmbs, but he was getting too agreeable with Hannity.

And what’s with the UFO stories & other Art Bell type crap he’s been throwing in sometimes lately?
