A school principal has apologized for showing a video at an assembly that a politically conservative group leader is calling "radical, leftist propaganda."
Children at Eagle Bay Elementary School in Farmington were shown a short video called "I pledge" on Aug. 28. The video opens with an image of President Barack Obama and part of a speech in which he says, "Let us summon a new spirit of patriotism, of responsibility where each of us resolves to pitch in and work harder and look after not only ourselves but each other." The video then features celebrities making pledges about how they will help the president and the world -- and that's where some say the problem lies.

Exactly.
I know it's a fine point, and the relationship between us and our employees is inverted in both cases. But to "be of service" to someone sounds like you're helping them in some way. To "serve" someone, at least in the head-of-state context, sounds like they're a ruler and you're a serf.
I pledge to work harder to get the socialists out of office.

I would say it is very much disturbing- not just you.
some of the vid was ok, but near the end it was very bad.
I’d say a portion of the stuff that was being pledged was completely unobjectionable. Then there was a portion that was OK except they only showed stuff liberals are in favor of. IOW, stuff that in and of itself wouldn’t be objectionable if they mixed it in with an equal number of causes dear to conservatives. Then there was the abject Obama-licking and pro-big-government cheer-leading.
Overall the effect was creepy. Some poster made an “Obama Youth” poster, which captures the overall feeling about right.
“Barack Obama — he’s the one! He’ll come tonight to take your gun!”
I hope you all noticed the good message from Michael Strahan promising to be an American, not an African-American. Well done, Michael.
Wow, if you go to the Salt Lake Tribune cite, it looks like most of the comment are in support of the video. They are saying these terrible conservatives are against conservation, etc.
That’s exactly how this video was intended. They completely ignore the fact that celebrities are trying to manipulate children to pledge to “be of service to Barack Obama.”

Wow. Forget the content of the video. Let's just think for a moment about the sheer stupidity of the person who is running this school. She didn't even bother to preview something she was going to show to the kids. She just assumed that since the PTA board wanted it, it must be OK. Speaks volumes, doesn't it?
I think there’s a similar one on TV that I’ve seen. I’m adult enough to know the difference, kids are not.
Yes, they deny the pledge of allegiance to the flag but not this crap. Grrrr.
