It's Official: No Public Option from Obama (Drudge Headline)
Politico.com ^ | 9/1/2009

Aides to President Barack Obama are putting the final touches on a new strategy to help Democrats recover from a brutal August recess by specifying what Obama wants to see in a compromise health care deal and directly confronting other trouble spots, West Wing officials tell POLITICO.

Obama is considering detailing his health-care demands in a major speech as soon as next week, when Congress returns from the August recess. And although House leaders have said their members will demand the inclusion of a public insurance option, Obama has no plans to insist on it himself, the officials said.

“We’re entering a new season,” senior adviser David Axelrod said in a telephone interview. “It’s time to synthesize and harmonize these strands and get this done. We’re confident that we can do that. But obviously it is a different phase. We’re going to approach it in a different way. The president is going to be very active.”

“Can we say “INCREMENTALISM?”

Can we say “Look for devils in the details?”

Can we say “Desperation calls for a win by any definition?”

CAN WE SAY CO-OPs?

(unless they’ve already re-named such a plan....and so, yes, the devil IS in the details!)

Mine are a lost cause, all Dems. Like I said, schumer, gillibrand, tonko. I will be actively supporting whoever runs against them.

We need to appeal to everyone, Republicans, Democrats, Independents...it’s all of us against obama’s communist/socialist admin....whose side are they on?”

I would add that, in addition to those you’ve listed (legislators), those of us ‘peons’ that are INFORMED need to take the TRUTH to the generally UNINFORMED public. If Glenn Beck is “preaching to the choir”, then, IMO, it’s our responsibility (and the least we can do) to spread the word.

There is nothing "organic" (for lack of a better term) about HR3200. It does not evolve from the legislative process. It was not framed from any public experience. It's a device conjured by some guys at Harvard (sorry I've lost the link.)

These lying jerks in congress pull it off a shelf and say "lookie here! A healthcare bill! America wants this!"

You know and I know HR3200 eliminates HSAs exactly on the page you referenced.

What a weasel statement that means ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!

Wow, no wonder all of his Illinois State Senate records are “lost”, it would prove how much of a radical he really was!

Incremental step... Now, he and Congress/Senate need to drop this power grab altogether. Most Americans are happy with their health care.

If the Dem maggots need something to do then they can work on REAL tort reform.

There will something that will eventually become the public option. This was talked about last week. I forget the name of it.

Gov regulated Co-ops.

Co-ops, I believe.

What we need is a competitive health insurance market, such as the ability to buy insurance over state lines. We need real tort reform, meaning real limits on punitive damages. Third, ERs need to start charging all comers without private insurance $100 for non-emergency visits, such as when little Juan has the sniffles or Jose stubbed his toe. If the illegals and the Medi-caid patients had to pay $100 for an ER visit for non-life threatening issues, those ERs would thin out to about half the demand overnight. Also, insurance companies need to lighten up on the pre-existing conditions denials of care. Finally, Medi-caid and Medi-care fraud should become a priority investigated by REAL investigators who know what they’re doing. The savings could be used by Medi-caid and Medi-care to pay a larger fee for services rather than the pittance the providers get now, which creates a loss passed on to paying customers. A combination of those few changes would probably cut costs by a minimum of a third in short order. With lower costs, more people would buy insurance.

Great idea. Simple, direct, effective.

Obama: "The message from the Town Halls meetings came back loud and clear -- the Republicans in Congress are being unreasonable. To be bipartisan and meet them half way, here are the new elements of my plan ..."

Exactly. And if the Republicans still aren't bi-partisan after all we've done to accommodate them then we're clearly justified in passing this bill for the American people without their interference.

"I’m not going to put a date on any of this,” Axelrod said. “But I think it’s fairly obvious that we’re not in the second inning. We’re not in the fourth inning. We’re in the eighth or ninth inning here, and so there’s not a lot of time to waste.”

More like "rained out", if you ask me.
