Rep. Peter King: I Would Have Run Against Caroline
NBC New York ^ | 9/1/09

Posted on 09/01/2009 10:58:51 AM PDT by nickcarraway

Rep. Peter King said he's bowing out of the Senate race because he doesn't think it's worth it to challenge a no-name.

The Republican from Long Island said he will not challenge Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand -- but he would have run against Caroline Kennedy for the position if Gov. David Paterson had appointed her to the seat.

"I would have run if Caroline Kennedy were the Democratic candidate," King told the New York Daily News . "Her candidacy would have generated the media coverage and financial contributions necessary for me to run a competitive race."

The governor chose Gillibrand, a congresswoman from upstate, to fill the senate seat vacated by Hillary Clinton after Kennedy lobbied for it.

"With Gillibrand, nobody really cares about her one way or the other. They don't even realize she's there," King said.

He said he wants the seat but thinks it would be too difficult to raise the funds necessary to run a successful campaign.

"I would have to spend every waking moment over the next year trying to raise money for that race," King told the News. "And it would be a stretch. "

He carried a lot of water for clinton during the impeachment hearings, and was one of the five to vote against impeachment. As I recall, it was because clinton gave his wife a post in Ireland.

He’s not always wrong, but if find that business hard to forget.

He’s my congressman and I’d hate for him to give up the seat but that reasoning is rather flawed.

She’s still a vote for the dark side.

Isn’t there a real Republican who could run in your district?

He’s as real as they get in New York State.
Or in the US congress as far as I can see.

Yep, King was a bigtime defender of clinton on all the cable shows 24/7.

He’s making a wise decision. He can’t possibly beat Gillibrand. She’s to his right on issues (he’s an anti-gun zealot) that are killer for him in the upstate, where the bulk of his votes would come from.

I've said this before, even if Abraham Lincoln ran in my home state he would lose in a landslide to any Democrat. This is being as delusional as a Republican taking the vacant Massachusetts senate seat.

Let me get this straight -- because there's a nobody in the seat, he'll let it stay Democrat, but if it were a Kennedy, he'd have gone for it.

Mr. King, we don't always agree on things, but I can get behind you on this. You need some BIG NAME to run against. Great!!

Chuck Schumer is up for re-election, too, next year, you flippin' idiot!! That a big enough name for you??

Oh, wait, that might be too big, because you've been afraid to challenge him up until now.

King, you're a moron.

So he doesn't care if the Dems continue to rule the Senate, since they'll have a "no-name" Senator from NY?

What an unmitigated goober!

"With Gillibrand, nobody really cares about her one way or the other. They don't even realize she's there," King said.

It takes a special kind of idiot to make a statement like that. You're talking about a house where there are only 100 votes, with 60 needed for cloture and the RATS have exactly 60 with Gillibrand. Yeah, no one notices she's there. What a buffoon!

King is so typical of the NY State RINOs. He won't challenge the relatively unknown Senator, but he'll challenge the well-known Senator or in this case, the well-known candidate. This is exactly the same asinine reasoning they used to boast how they were going to challenge Her Heinous when she ran for re-election but said nothing about going after Chucky Cheese Schumer.

Idiot.

Or in the US congress as far as I can see.

Only because, like Giussolini, he is a regular on the Sheep Show that is Fox News. Check out his record on 2nd Amendment rights or his support for IRA terrorists sometime.

NY GOP RINOs are scared of Schumer because of his huge war chest from the wealthier members of the Jewish community. This is why Chucky gets his a-s kissed by the likes of Molinaro.

I know all about it.
He revised his view on the IRA after 9/11. No one is perfect.

And right now he's the only one in the congress who's taking Obama to task over the CIA.
