White House blasts Cheney
Straits Times ^ | 9/1/2009

Posted on 08/31/2009 5:48:16 PM PDT by markomalley

THE White House on Monday dismissed former vice president Dick Cheney's attacks on a probe into alleged CIA abuses of 'war on terrorism' detainees and sharply questioned his foreign policy judgment.

'This is the same song and dance we've heard since literally the first day of our administration,' spokesman Robert Gibbs said after Mr Cheney blasted the investigation as politically driven and harmful to national security.

Mr Gibbs said Mr Cheney 'clearly had his facts on a number of things wrong' and highlighted Republican Senator John McCain's denunciation of CIA use of interrogation techniques widely seen as torture.

'I would add this: I'm not entirely sure that Dick Cheney's predictions on foreign policy have borne a whole lot of fruit over the last eight years in a way that have been either positive or, to the best of my recollection, very correct,' said the spokesman.

Mr Cheney told Fox News Channel in an interview aired Sunday that the probe was an 'outrageous political act' that would harm national security by making CIA agents fear possible legal reprisals.

Attorney General Eric Holder last week named a special investigator to determine whether a full criminal probe is needed into the actions of CIA interrogators of alleged terrorists.

The probe will cover CIA agents at overseas sites thought to have overstepped the limits laid out in Bush-era legal memoranda after the Sept 11, 2001 terrorist strikes.

President Barack Obama has ruled out actions against Central Intelligence Agency officials who followed Bush-era interrogation guidelines in good faith

The Commie ‘RATS are going to pay for this someday. Americans have had enough. We need to start building more “shovel ready” prisons. Once we Americans get our government back, we’re going to need them.

In addition to everything else we have in the wh, we have this adolescent level Press Secretary.

Note that not one member of the press corps asked him what facts Cheney had wrong.

Watch the "Messiah's" numbers drop even more and soon perhaps toting a new press secretary. ; )

Misleading man Gibbs. Cheney didn’t predict the course of the war very well but so what? Who ever does? What he did do was provide dead-on guidance for wringing crucial facts out of terrorists, and that with what were basically bluffs, pseudo-torture. Bummer is so proud of himself for letting those cats out of the bag, not realizing that bluffs may not work with the next batch of terrorists — and there almost certainly will be another batch. Some heads might have to be literally cracked.

\No, the information Cheny's administration got from the interrogation of these NON GENEVA CONVENTION PRISONERS led to the capyure and destruction of the terrorist cadres that plotted 9/11, and onward, prevented any other attacks on the USA from the same source.

I 'd say thats positive and correct fruit, wouldn't you?

This is the typical fascist technique of rewriting history. Do NOT let them get away with it.

Gibbs is pulling his stinking facts right out of Obama's A$$. McPain is the suppository.

Headline should read “White House more fired up about the statements from Republicans than terrorists and dictators.”

This Obama “probe” has fired me up even more, which I never thought could be possible.

I wonder if one of his daugthers were kidnapped like the 11 year old in Tahoe what kind of interrogation he would use to find our where she was?

These “compassionate” people are only theorists. They don't live in the real world and compassion only applies to their narcissistic personalities.

Somebody needs to chew McCain’s ass out in a very public manner for selling out the GOP and giving the democrats cover once again.

Keep it up Cheney!

The Vice President sees an easy target politically and has the ambition to forward his promotion to slam dunk it.

He IS the MAN!

It is an amazing thing, how this administration - the administration of a man who is arguably in the most powerful position on Earth - feels the need - no the COMPULSION - to attack private citizens who stand up to them. Starting during the campaign with Joe the Plumber, continuing into the final stretch against Sarah Palin (and then well beyond the election), and now in a spat with a knowledgeable voice.

Even Dick Cheney’s enemies respect the man. Not even Obama’s friends respect the boy.
