A Phoenix-area pastor has started to draw protesters to his congregation after he delivered a sermon titled, "Why I Hate Barack Obama," and told his parishioners that he prays for President Obama's death.

Pastor Steven Anderson stood by his sermon in an interview with MyFOXPhoenix, which reports that the pastor continues to encourage his parishioners to join him in praying for the president's death.

"I hope that God strikes Barack Obama with brain cancer so he can die like Ted Kennedy and I hope it happens today," he told MyFOXPhoenix on Sunday. He called his message "spiritual warfare" and said he does not condone killing.

“A warrior praying for victory against his enemy is one thing, praying for the death of an elected official in one’s own country is quite another.”

Actually, David didn’t pray for victory against his enemy. I just read the passage in the O.T.

Yup, that’s it. I didn’t want to be accused of “hate speech” by quoting it. Check your six.

Hate speech, schmate speech.

45 David said to the Philistine, “You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the LORD Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. 46 This day the LORD will hand you over to me, and I’ll strike you down and cut off your head. Today I will give the carcasses of the Philistine army to the birds of the air and the beasts of the earth, and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel. 47 All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the LORD saves; for the battle is the LORD’s, and he will give all of you into our hands.”

1 Samuel 17:45-47

That's right, he didn't pray for victory. He marched forth with the full confidence that the Lord God would give him victory!

Assuming this dork paid attention to any of it.

It’s this kind of nut job that fuels Christian-haters everywhere.

Is it appropriate to pray for someone to get their head out of their bum??

How sad. This man and those who “follow” him should be in fear for their own souls’ salvation.

Hardly.

I think BO’s children are beautful and blameless and I am careful not to be seen as attacking them.

"What kind of freak show is this guy running? The Bible specifically commands that we pray for our country and her leaders - not against them."

Imprecatory prayers are found in Psalms, 69 and 109 are most known for their imprecatory material, but several other psalms contain these “judgment prayers” as well.

For example, in Psalm 69:28 David prays this regarding his persecutors, “Let them be blotted out of the book of the living; let them not be enrolled among the righteous.” It seems David not only prays for their death, but possibly that they would be eternally lost as well.

Psalm109

Hold not thy peace, O God of my praise;

2 for the mouth of the wicked and the mouth of the deceitful are opened against me:
they have spoken against me with a lying tongue.
3 They compassed me about also with words of hatred;
and fought against me without a cause.
4 For my love they are my adversaries:
but I give myself unto prayer.
5 And they have rewarded me evil for good,
and hatred for my love. and let Satan stand at his right hand.
7 When he shall be judged, let him be condemned:
and let his prayer become sin.
8 Let his days be few;
and let another take his office.
9 Let his children be fatherless, and his wife a widow.
10 Let his children be continually vagabonds, and beg: let them seek their bread also out of their desolate places.
11Let the extortioner catch all that he hath;
and let the strangers spoil his labor.
12Let there be none to extend mercy unto him:
neither let there be any to favor his fatherless children.
13Let his posterity be cut off;
and in the generation following let their name be blotted out.
14 Let the iniquity of his fathers be remembered with the LORD;
and let not the sin of his mother be blotted out.
15 Let them be before the LORD continually,
that he may cut off the memory of them from the earth.
16 Because that he remembered not to show mercy,
but persecuted the poor and needy man, that he might even slay the broken in heart.
17 As he loved cursing,
so let it come unto him:
as he delighted not in blessing,
so let it be far from him.
18 As he clothed himself with cursing like as with his garment,
so let it come into his bowels like water,
and like oil into his bones.
19 Let it be unto him as the garment which covereth him,
and for a girdle wherewith he is girded continually.
20 Let this be the reward of mine adversaries from the LORD,
and of them that speak evil against my soul.

"Now, the “spiritual” reality is that this “Pastor” has a WRONG heart and an unChristian attitude toward Barack Obama."

I don't believe so. Obama is an enemy of the Church and all it stands for, therefore it is not wrong to pray against our enemies, as others have done in the bible (Psalms 69,109) as you can see.

It almost reads like a bad joke or satire. Something from the Onion or Scrappleface.

What kind of 'church' is this? It's heinous that he should piggy back on his church to voice this kind of talk. And then deign to call it spiritual warfare. He needs our prayers.

If anything, it's all this political correctness, and fear of what the enemy thinks and appeasing to their accusations that is UN-Christian.

6 Set thou a wicked man over him: and let Satan stand at his right hand.

8 Let his days be few; and let another take his office.

9 Let his children be fatherless, and his wife a widow.

13 Let his posterity be cut off; and in the generation following let their name be blotted out.

14 Let the iniquity of his fathers be remembered with the LORD; and let not the sin of his mother be blotted out.

15 Let them be before the LORD continually, that he may cut off the memory of them from the earth.

18 As he clothed himself with cursing like as with his garment, so let it come into his bowels like water, and like oil into his bones.

19 Let it be unto him as the garment which covereth him, and for a girdle wherewith he is girded continually.

20 Let this be the reward of mine adversaries from the LORD, and of them that speak evil against my soul.

21 But do thou for me, O GOD the Lord, for thy name's sake: because thy mercy is good, deliver thou me.

22 For I am poor and needy, and my heart is wounded within me.

23 I am gone like the shadow when it declineth: I am tossed up and down as the locust.

24 My knees are weak through fasting; and my flesh faileth of fatness.

25 I became also a reproach unto them: when they looked upon me they shook their heads.

26 Help me, O LORD my God: O save me according to thy mercy:

27 that they may know that this is thy hand; that thou, LORD, hast done it.

28 Let them curse, but bless thou: when they arise, let them be ashamed; but let thy servant rejoice.

29 Let mine adversaries be clothed with shame; and let them cover themselves with their own confusion, as with a mantle.

30 I will greatly praise the LORD with my mouth; yea, I will praise him among the multitude.

31 For he shall stand at the right hand of the poor, to save him from those that condemn his soul.

Psalm 69

16 Hear me, O LORD; for thy loving-kindness is good: turn unto me according to the multitude of thy tender mercies.

17 And hide not thy face from thy servant; for I am in trouble: hear me speedily.

18 Draw nigh unto my soul, and redeem it: deliver me because of mine enemies.

19 Thou hast known my reproach, and my shame, and my dishonor: mine adversaries are all before thee.

20 Reproach hath broken my heart; and I am full of heaviness: and I looked for some to take pity, but there was none; and for comforters, but I found none.

21 They gave me also gall for my meat; and in my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink.

22 Let their table become a snare before them: and that which should have been for their welfare, let it become a trap.

23 Let their eyes be darkened, that they see not; and make their loins continually to shake.

24 Pour out thine indignation upon them, and let thy wrathful anger take hold of them.

25 Let their habitation be desolate; and let none dwell in their tents.

26 For they persecute him whom thou hast smitten; and they talk to the grief of those whom thou hast wounded.

27 Add iniquity unto their iniquity: and let them not come into thy righteousness.

28 Let them be blotted out of the book of the living, and not be written with the righteous.
