A Phoenix-area pastor has started to draw protesters to his congregation after he delivered a sermon titled, "Why I Hate Barack Obama," and told his parishioners that he prays for President Obama's death.
Pastor Steven Anderson stood by his sermon in an interview with MyFOXPhoenix, which reports that the pastor continues to encourage his parishioners to join him in praying for the president's death.
"I hope that God strikes Barack Obama with brain cancer so he can die like Ted Kennedy and I hope it happens today," he told MyFOXPhoenix on Sunday. He called his message "spiritual warfare" and said he does not condone killing.

I interpreted it to imply that both pastors are equally deranged, nuts and worthy of disdain. The Christianity I know doesn't pray for the death of individuals -- it prays for the enlightenment of the wicked, or their downfall from power -- not their physical death.
Do you disagree?
Absolutely disgusting & very UN-Christianlike. The pastor should know better than this. Besides, Obama is just a mere lackey for those behind the scenes that are destroying our nation. He will be easily replaced w/o a second thought should something happen to him.
Maybe this was Fred Phelps in disguise.
We should only pray for an improvement in the situation and let God determine the means.
Praying for Obama’s death is sinful.
“Praying for Obamas death is sinful.”
What did David do before facing Goliath? I truly can’t remember. I know he asked for God’s help... but can’t recall the context exactly.
A warrior praying for victory against his enemy is one thing, praying for the death of an elected official in one's own country is quite another.
That's something I'll consider. I take it that enlightenment of the wicked is what's recommended in the Bible, then.
I only recently started going to church again (when I went off to college in 1993, I stopped going, unfortunately), but I now have a renewed interest in the Bible and Christianity.
It's also unfortunate that when I did go to church in the late 80s to early 90s, I goofed off when in Sunday School and Bible Study and, as a result, don't remember much.
My favorite (and most personally applicable) Old Testament entry would be - hands-down - Book of Job. That's really the only chapter I've read from start to finish - and many more times than just once. And Matthew is the only New Testament book I've read (and enjoy very much), so I've got some serious catching up to do.
Ever read Psalms?
Someone once said something like “Not God bless the President but God damn the President”. Something like that.
You don’t need to be snotty; I was just asking.
Also, if you think Hussein was “elected” in a fair American way, you’re delusional. When dead folks vote, and terrorists with billy clubs are monitoring polling places, and non-Americans cast ballots, Hussein really isn’t an “elected official”.
Well, the bible says pray for the sinners, but it didn't say how....
That is both stupid and un-Christian.
He should pray that Obama sees the light and is redeemed, or, failing that, that others see light and neuter him (politically, of course...).
And, frankly, I can’t think of ANYTHING worse for conservatives than a martyred Obama...
That's what a Christian would (shoudl) pray for. A Jew might pray for someone's conversion, as well as a Muslim or Hindu and it woud mean something different.
Ever heard of a guy named Saul of Tarsus?
Pray for God to have His way with Obama...
Exactly. Psalm 109 is an excellent example. It calls down every possible curse.
If something were to happen to Obama violently, I have no doubt that the diverse population of the US will riot and the consequences will be dire. I served the military during the Fireman's Strike in Memphis back in 1978 and don't wish to see anything like that to happen again.
This “Pastor” has, at the very least, walked into the snare set by Socialist devils. THEY can say they “HATE” Republicans, Conservatives, even write books like “Why I Hate President Bush,” and they will NEVER get called on it. But does this “Pastor” think he can get away with it?! He will be villified, dismissed, investigated, and destroyed if the Obamunists and their allies in the press deem it necessary and entertaining. That’s the “political” reality.
Now, the “spiritual” reality is that this “Pastor” has a WRONG heart and an unChristian attitude toward Barack Obama. It is one thing to deplore what he does. It is one thing to pray for deliverance from this actions, or protection from his errant, even evil, policies. But to pray for his death and declare hatred for the man — THAT’S not scriptural! He should be openly rebuked by his fellow elders, ministers and his congregation. I think some time away for solitude, repentance and prayer would be in order.
But what do I know? I’ve only been in ministry for 22 years...
8 May his days be few;
may another take his place of leadership.
9 May his children be fatherless
and his wife a widow.
10 May his children be wandering beggars;
may they be driven [d] from their ruined homes.
11 May a creditor seize all he has;
may strangers plunder the fruits of his labor.
12 May no one extend kindness to him
or take pity on his fatherless children.
13 May his descendants be cut off,
their names blotted out from the next generation.
