Maybe it's because her dad served in the U.S. Marines ... or because her high school mascot is a fierce-looking eagle ... or because she plans to enlist in the Army next summer after graduation to defend her country ... whatever the reason, when Heather Lawrence saw a fellow student refuse to stand for the Pledge of Allegiance and recite it with the class, the 16-year-old Junior ROTC member saw a teachable moment and took it.
And for that, she's been suspended five days.
Lawrence's troubles with administrators at Springstead High School in Hernando Beach, Fla., began last Wednesday when she noticed a female Muslim student refusing to participate in the Pledge. The student was wearing a hijab, the traditional Muslim headscarf.
Later in the day, Lawrence encountered the student between periods and told her she should stand for the pledge, reported Hernando Today.
"Take that thing off your head and act like you're proud to be an American," Lawrence told her.

Why do these females in slave-rags even go to school? Shouldn’t they be at home, waiting to be murdered, beaten or raped in accordance with Sharia law?
Good girl.
Good girl.
maybe they are afraid to go home...that girl you see wearing a hijab may be another rifqa.
God bless this feisty young lady.
Or, “TAKE YOUR HEAD OUT OF THAT THING...NO NOT THAT ONE...”
I know!!! I know!!!
She goes to school, in yards of muslim (pun intended) doesn’t respect the Pledge of Allegiance...so that at some point she can be offended; have daddy call his buddies at CAIR; $ue for damage$; and get another American school ‘sensitized’ to her ‘culture.’
Way to go, Army Girl!
There is hope for Americas future!
Whether we're aware of it or not, there is a generation of young Patriots coming up behind us old timers.
Our Armed Forces are filled to capacity with young men and women who love their freedom and WANT to fight for their country, and they have no sympathy toward Islam.
Best news all day...
Back in my day we may have not been so nice about it.They damned well knew we were serious.
HOOAH miss
It seems there is a kind of slow motion “fight of flight” reaction in American culture. In the wake of what 9-11 taught us about Islamic aggression, conservatives have grown more more fed up with Muslims who don’t want to assimilate, while progressives have grown hyper sensitive to anything that might upset them.
Suspension may be a bit much, but certainly she should have been advised to "chill out." This is a free country.
Why would telling her to “chill out” be any different than her advise to the muslim?
What's next, some Liberal kid yelling at another kid with a Palin 2012 hat on, "Take that thing off your head and act like your proud of President Obama!"
If the Muslim girl was regularly disruptive or disrespectful during the Pledge, that's one thing. But being castigated for not participating and/or being Muslim is quite frankly un-American. IMHO.
As a Junior ROTC cadet she should consider the oath she might one day take as an officer.
