Nevada fired the first shot, targeting California's lousy business climate.
A good, old-fashioned advertising war has erupted between California and Nevada. At issue is which venue is more business-friendly.
Nevada says it's more business friendly because it has no corporate income tax, no personal income tax and its worker compensation fees are much lower.
California says it's more business friendly because, well, because California has a lot of consumers and nice weather.
Nevada's campaign is the latest in a series run by bordering states to lure dissatisfied California businesses to greener pastures. Paid for by the Nevada Development Authority, the TV, radio and print ads ridicule California. One ad asks: "California will be more pro-business …when?" and shows a picture of a pig with wings.
That apparently was the last straw for Assemblyman Jose Solorio, D-Anaheim, who told us the Nevada ads were "over the top and offensive." In retaliation, he launched a website and ad campaign paid for by his reelection campaign to defend the Golden State's honor, such as it is.
Democrats in Sacramento already are clamoring for more new taxes.
Worse yet, the state's tax reform commission is about to propose three major tax increases for legislators to consider. One would increase businesses' taxes by removing their Proposition 13 property tax limits. Another would add a new "carbon tax." A third would impose a "net business receipts tax," like Europe's value-added tax.
Mr. Solorio and his "pro-job, pro-business" friends soon will have an opportunity for substantive action, as opposed to feel-good sloganeering.

Nevada is specifically not soliciting retail businesses or gambling interests. So that doesn’t apply.

LOL! NV has been actively going after industry, manufacturing and business to relocate there from CA for at least 30 years that I know of and probably longer. CA has not done a thing to stop it, they’ve only done more to force them to move.

When you’ve got to the point that Red China is more business friendly than California, you’ve won some kind of a sweepstakes, I think. Sacramento should call up Guiness. Its got to be some kind of record.
It is a shame. Tennessee is snapping up all the business they can. The incentives are to great for the opposition to overcome. California is headed toward collapse because of the overall liberal goverment.

Idaho quietly repossessed Buck Knife. The company originated in Mountain Home, Idaho, but did much of its growing in El Cajon, CA. The company has moved to Post Falls, Idaho. I would be pleased to facilitate more such moves.
