Corporal punishment in schools generally relates to punishing children using spanking, paddling, hitting with rulers and other means of physical punishment. While it is technically legal in AZ, it's use is not widespread. According to Human Rights Watch, it was used a total of 16 times in the 2006-2007 school year in Arizona. Although in other states it's usage is much higher with Texas, Mississippi, and Alabama leading the way with 49,157, 38,131 and 33,716 children punished in 2006-2007, says the HRW website.

Article here Should corporal punishment be allowed in schools?
I wouldn’t trust the liberal public school teachers or others to exercise corporal punishment. As parents we use that at home with success.
I had a hard and fast rule: No one physically punishes my kid but me, and I’d take apart the first SOB who tried otherwise.
I have mixed feelings about it playing a role in school, but I am 100% for in in politics! ;-)
If corporate punishment is “banned” then when kids misbehave, expel them. Eventually the parents will have to deal with their undisciplined child.

If you knew and trusted the Principal and set guidelines in a contract, I’d be all for it.
Problem is, if a kid misbehaves today at a public school, you have to literally call a cop to take care of the situation.
There used to be a time, when I was kid, that it was totally acceptable and kids were not so out of control because they knew somebody was actually in charge and there were consequences for bad behavior.
Not anymore.
Predictable spread of responses here on FR, but I wonder what school kids of various ages would say?

FREEP THIS POLL ***PING!*** FRmail me if you want to be added or removed from the Fearless Poll-Freeping Freepers Ping list. And be sure to ping me to any polls that need Freepin', if I miss them. (looks like a medium volume list) (gordongekko909, founder of the pinglist, stays on the list until his ghost signs up for the list)
50 years ago I would not have had a problem with it. Today with the depraved screwballs who run our government schools, not so much.
I agree with you in today's society. The punishers would just as likely do it for their own sick pleasure as to discipline the kid.
During my time in L.A.USD in the 60s and 70s I was given swats for certain transgressions. Once I was swatted I never did the same thing again. And my father often followed up with another one for me at home.
Barney Frank might like it.
“Freep a Poll: Should Corporal Punishment play a role in schools?”
Nope, I was the kind of Dad (kids are graduated) that held the opinion, you tell me what she did and I will be the one that doles out the discipline if needed. Besides, these days the kids would get beaten for not pledging allegiance to Obama or the horrid hate crime of refusing to perform oral sex on a member of the same gender.
I agree. See my post 13
Choice in education is good. Currently, we don't have much choice -- and educational quality (and discipline) suffers because of it.
