CONCORD, Calif. — A young woman walked into a California police station and announced that she was Jaycee Lee Dugard — a girl who was snatched by an abductor from a Lake Tahoe-area school bus stop in 1991, authorities said Thursday.

The woman came into the Concord police station and said she was the missing child, said Lt. Les Lovell of the El Dorado Sheriff's Department.

"We're 99 percent sure it's her," Lovell said. He said DNA tests were being conducted. It was not immediately clear when she came to the station.

Lovell said Concord police did an investigation after the woman surfaced, and he received a call Wednesday from investigators who tentatively identified her as Dugard.

snatched from a school bus stop? Was the school district held liable, as any private enterprise would have been?

What has her poor mothers life been like for the past 18 years?
I can’t even imagine.
She must be the happiest woman on the planet right now.
A miracle.

I hope the 2 scumbags go down HARD.

The parent is responsible for the child until he/she boards the bus.

I heard this on Fox News a few hours ago on my Sirius radio in my car. My first thought was, what if this this is a hoax, the woman is putting the family through, but seeing both photos, it is clear it is her. I must be the happiest day for the mother, her father and herself

From other articles it appears the child was walking down the street towards the bus stop when she was snatched.

Evan at the bus stop, it’s nothing but a designated street corner, not in the least under the control of the school. How can the school be held liable for the safety of children at random street corners?

What “both photos”
Did I miss something?

I’ve been watching 3 sources on this story and must have missed the up to date photo of Jaycee.

I wonder the same.

This smells a little odd.

I’d like to see what information comes out over the next week.

What a stunning miracle for this family.

Now if only the world could find Madeline McCann and all the other missing children.

Kidnappers usually tell young kids that their parents have “given” the kids to them, or don’t want them anymore, or some such thing. Kids are very impressionable and these people have power over them.

There was a little boy kidnapped in California years ago named Steven Stayner. His kidnapper and another man told him that his family couldn’t afford him and didn’t want him anymore. He was kept in an isolated cabin on the Mendocino coast, sexually molested, moved around, and then finally even allowed to go to school because he had been so thoroughly brainwashed. It was only when he got “too old” for his kidnapper and the man went out and kidnapped another child that Steven Stayner suddenly rebelled and escaped, taking the other child with him to the police.

Sadly, the whole family was destroyed. His brother, Cary Stayner, became a serial killer in the California parks, and Steven Stayner himself died in a motorcycle accident.

So who knows what happened to this girl.

yes, though the boy finally came home, it was like his past haunted him into a reckless death. it was sad. I hope this is the right girl and that she can recover from this catastrophic kidnapping. she will need lots of prayers for healing.
