RICHMOND, Va. (Aug. 26) An executive for an anti-animal cruelty group says her 16-year-old blind and deaf dog died after she accidentally left him in her hot car for four hours.
Robin Starr, the CEO of the Richmond Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, says she didn't realize "Louie" was in the car until noon. Starr's husband, Ed, told the Richmond Times-Dispatch he put the dog in her car as she got ready for work Aug. 19. She often took the dog to work with her.
Robin Starr took the dog to two clinics, but he died of kidney failure.
The board of the SPCA says it still supports Starr, who has been CEO since 1997 and does not plan to resign. It was unclear whether she would be charged.

Do I believe she intentionally killed her pet? No. I cannot imagine any pet owner deliberatly torturing their loved animal companion in that manner.
However, this group seems more intent upon punishing the crime, rather than the intent. It seems fairly hypcritical that if you or I were to commit the same action - they would descend upon us. But they are very forgiving when their CEO makes an honest mistake.
I lost a couple former fosters last year for the same reason, so I vowed that I would not ever let that happen again.
she seems like a real idiot, given her position is advocacy
I just don’t understand how you overlook a big hairy dog, whne you job is about telling people how NOT to do that
Our local SPCA director, a neighbor of ours, once ran over my cat. I meant it when I shrugged and said, “Easy come, easy go...”; but was shocked when she agreed with me.
Exactly. The issue of competency should come up here. Yet the SPCA supports her.
Sounds like her husband is trying to cover for her. Definitely careless. That must be a horrible way to die.
Sounds like she had her head elsewhere, doesn’t it.
It takes her four hours to get ready to get to her job at noon? Something stinks here, like bad Vietnamese food....
Her job is fund-raising. Animal protection is just the hook used to separate little old ladies from their money.
It is a very effective hook. That is why there are so many animal-protection charities out there, and they are all big bucks, sophisticated, fund-raising operations with a small, inconsequential advocacy businesses on the side.
This story will piss you off if you love dogs.
What a fat bastard, scumbag.

Man throws eldery dog to its death
CHICAGO (STNG) - A man was charged Wednesday for allegedly hurling his 17-year-old Labrador retriever off a third-floor porch Aug. 15 in the Wicker Park neighborhood, resulting in the dogs death, police said.
The dog was the family pet, according to police News Affairs.
Lawrence Juliano, 45, of 1324 N. Wolcott Ave., was arrested at 1 p.m. Wednesday and later charged with aggravated cruelty to animals and animal torture — both felonies — for the Aug. 15 incident, according to police.
Animal crimes team officers took Juliano into custody after he was positively identified as the person who picked up a male 17-year-old Labrador retriever and threw from a third-floor porch at the Wolcott Avenue address, according to police. The dog died in the incident.
The charges were approved at 7:03 p.m. Wednesday.
Grand Central Area detectives are investigating.

A Chicago man is facing criminal charges after throwing an older dog off a third floor balcony, apparently because the dog was barking
“I’m devastated,” said Vanessa Tamarit, the dog’s owner. When she found, Coco, her 17-year-old Labrador Retriever he was shaking in the gangway. He was probably laying there for up to 30 minutes, she said.
Tamarit’s stepfather, 45-year-old Lawrence Juliano, is charged with animal torture and aggravated cruelty to animals.
Coco lived with Juiano, who recently was laid off from the city, along Tamarit’s mother and siblings in the 1300 block of N. Wolcott Avenue. Tamarit says her stepfather,” is still denying it and trying to say he was set up.” Tamarit was not there at the time, only her younger brother who she says is deaf-mute.
Lawrence Juliano has been charged in with animal cruelty.
While this happened two weeks ago, police say Juliano was taken into custody after officers learned he was positively identified as the person who picked the dog up and threw him from a third story porch.
“For him to do something like this to an innocent dog in his last days is inhumane, that’s why I’m following through with pressing charges,” Tamarit said. “He shouldn’t get away with this.”
