"Sleep deprivation, "insult slaps," water dousing and "walling," or slamming a detainee's head against a wall, were techniques used by CIA interrogators to break high-value detainees, according to an agency memo."
Holder decision "promises political headaches for President Barack Obama, came after the Justice Department's ethics watchdog recommended considering prosecution of CIA employees or contractors for interrogations in Iraq and Afghanistan that went beyond approved limits."
Cheney said ""The people involved deserve our gratitude. They do not deserve to be the targets of political investigations or prosecutions," he said in a statement."

But, not the first one had his head lopped off, did they? Holder and the Zero administration are putting our country perilously close to being attacked again. Cheney is quite correct to describe our country as being less safe under the Zero administration.
If we couldn’t put the fear of God into Mohammed’s army, we were going to at least put the fear of America into them.
They thought they had struck a paper tiger on 9-11. A blowhard that would quickly crumble.
Some were high echelon subjects like that. Others were like the grenade-tosser that Obama sent back home recently. In both cases the point was to get them to talk, we never had vengeance or punishment on our minds.
“All enemies, foreign and domestic”. We’ve arrived.
He'll try, but the overwhelming American response will be "WE DON'T BELIEVE YOU!"
The grenade tosser wasn’t a suspect. He was guilty.
And only 3 people were waterboarded. Something the media doesn’t tell the public.
The Sheik was one of them.
Guilty of grenade tossing, but a “plotter”?
I think this will backfire on them. The American public know that the CIA was trying to protect them and they won’t stand by and see them thrown to the wolves.
Do they think we won’t demonstrate against this? Plus pack any court room..become the jury?
cia is supposed to break terrorist prisoners...its their job
The point is they weren’t suspected terrorists.
The questioning was to find out what they knew.
This wasn’t to “build a case for prosecution” against them. This was to build information and gather intelligence.
The Left’s core problem with McCarthyism is NOT that innocent people were caught up (can they name names of those who were wrongly punished?), it was that they saw no harm in being a Communist even if your organization WAS being manipulated by agents of the Soviet Union at the height of the Cold War.
CIA has done nothing wrong and in the end most people will understand that.
But the short term payoff of all this is that, in order to defend itself, CIA has to reveal its interrogation methods and philosophy, and it has to reveal the exact limits it places on itself.
This is read by Al Qaeda, Iranian intel, Chinese intel, everyone. And terrorists are coached by their leaders exactly how to behave if they are captured and exactly what to expect from the interrogator.
One of the main things an interrogator has going for him is the fact that prisoner is fearful and doesn’t know what is happening to him. He is in psychological free-fall and his interrogator is his life-line.
Exposing the details of the interrogator’s art does tremendous damage. This is by design. These people are a menace.
The CIA has a license to kill.
If they can’t even fire off a gun (blank) in the neighboring room to spook a detainee, then they have no “right” to kill the enemy either.
lol i didnt say that.....
I do see an upside to this although word will NOT get back to the Arab Street.
There were probably rumors in the terrorist underground that detainees were tortured (REAL torture), their families were tortured (not just telling the detainee that their families were in jeopardy, HELL'S BELLS the Clinton team did that to those who spoke out against the Clinton administration), and there were probably rumors that a prisoner here or there had "heard" other prisoners being shot (recall that some detainees were released only to find them going back to jihad and killing themselves in suicide bombings).
The smoke and mirrors of the investigations have been revealed. The terrorist cells will breathe a sigh of relief that we won't use those methods, but the common Islamist on the street probably won't get the "snopes" expose of the rumors.
We need to be seeding the Arab media to let them KNOW that we did not authorize rape and murder, unlike Saddam and his dead sons.
Right, I was just adding my own point.
I don’t see how James Bond can be a popular box office draw anymore since the world reportedly “hates” such tactics, even if they come with government authorization in the interest of national security.
I said plotters
Bond fights figures of phantasmagorical and uncontroverted evil. Goldfinger and Dr. No, for example, never had 24/7 P.R. teams urging the world that they were harmless.
He took on Russian villains too.
Moonraker was about a Utopian dream.
Again the bulk of the ACLU’s case is about what was done to Khalid Sheikh Mohammed. HE was the major figure waterboard. HIS was the family he was told would be killed.
HE was the one who sang like a canary.
Clinton’s people threatened snitches. “Saw your kids today, they were wearing...” “How’s your cat? Dead? My my.” “Tires slashed? How could THAT have happened?”
