Ok, this Freepathon, like the Energizer Bunny, just keeps going on and on. What's up with that ?
So here are a few reasons why this is so and I'm curious to what the problem is. Please chime in if any apply to you.
1) The economy stinks and so does my finances.
2) I got banned too many times.
2a) People who I want banned, did not get banned.
3) There are too many people who disagree with me on this forum.
4) There are too many annoying people on this forum.
5) I've been called "rino" too many times.
6) There are too many "rinos" on the forum.
7) When I make a tiny mistake, people jump down my throat.
8) Other (please specify)
Ok, I know there are a few posters who do that when you don't agree with them, but most everyone else would never say that.
Here’s a novel idea - it’s time FreeRepublic to start posting ads to pay for itself. Instead of having quarterly Freepathons (each for $80,000 - $240,000 a year) why don’t we start donating to actual conservative candidates!
Imagine $240,000 being infused towards the campaigns of a few conservative for 2010. You might say that’s only a drop in the bucket for a campaign - and it is; but every little bit helps.
Just please no “Are You Smarter than Sarah Palin?” ads thanks you.
I contribute monthly but will send extra tomorrow, I always send extra during the FReepathons.
FR is the proverbial herd of cats. No matter what or who was advertised, a sizable minority will hate its or his/her guts and tension will be created and freepers banned. There does seem to be a problem in that each quarterly Freepathon takes more and more of the quarter to complete. At some point it won't be done by the end of a quarter and then that's all she wrote. Are there cheaper places to host sites than in tax-mad California? Nevada maybe?
Almost everyone sells gear. I don’t know if they make money on it or not but there are so many great graphics on FR that it seems like some can be donated to the site and stuff can be sold.
Jim has run this site so well for so long and he may not want to sell stuff. That’s his call.
I just don’t want FR to go away or even suffer from lack of funds especially since I can’t afford to give much myself. I’d like to contribute in some other way that FR can profit from.

I donate monthly. Would like for it to be more, but both husband and I have been laid off. Fortunately my customers are going to follow me (and have signed contracts) so I’ll be self employed.
Maybe this will all work out and I can contrib ute more, but I expect the next six months to be very difficult.

I’m so steamed that I stopped contributing to Freepathons and switched to monthlies and now the FReaking spell checker suggests “frothiness” for “FReepathons.” I feel an opus coming on, something of epochal proportions. I wonder what the spell checker will do about “opus”? Where’s the Caps Lock key?
We are doing good to keep the roof over our head. It may be in jeopardy.

There is a growing drain on FR bandwidth that comes from the ever expanding blogging community. We have bloggers that come here for one reason only. To drive hits to their sites. You’ve seen them. They toss out juicy thread titles and then excerpt their “articles” with one or two sentences, for no reason. They can post the blog article. If their blog doesn’t allow more than an except on FR, why post here???
Most of them don’t even do us the honor of including a link to FR on their blog home page.
Jim has always been a welcoming host on this site for all like-minded consevatives. The blog community has taken advantage of Jim’s big heart and I, for one, am sick and tired of their whoring for free on FR.
I don’t view their threads, I certainly won’t give them a web hit. Hell, they even post their blogs in News/Actvism in order to give them a chance to post in ‘Breaking News’.
If all y’all can donate a couple of bucks....great! If you can’t....God bless you! Do not go away!! It’s going to get better....

I have upped my monthly twice already. I just wish we could convince a majority of Freepers to donate some small amount monthly. If they would do that, there would be no Freepathons. I feel confident that most people could afford at least $5 a month. Most spend that much on soft drinks in a week.

What can I say? I’m just unique that way :)
I have already donated. We are having trouble at this time. I love this place. I wish I could give more.... but the bills have to be paid. We have taken a great hit lately. I have a screwed up leg from some screwed up surgery.
I am probably not alone.
I don't think they ever said it goes 'only' to education. People heard that it would to toward education and assumed that meant 'all.'

I found a way to make it work for me.
I chose to cut out some stuff. Worked for me. Won’t work for everybody, as we all know...
After all is said and done....We’re all in this together....
