Gordon Brown in new storm over freed Lockerbie bomber
Guardian ^ | Aug 23 2009 | Gaby Hinsleff

Gordon Brown faced fresh questions tonight after it emerged that he discussed with Colonel Gaddafi detailed conditions for the Lockerbie bomber's return nearly six weeks ago, while senior Labour figures warned of an economic backlash from angry Americans "costing our country dear".

Downing Street released the text of a cordial letter sent to the Libyan leader on the day that Abdulbaset al-Megrahi was released, asking that the event be kept low key because a "high-profile" ceremony would distress his victims and their families.

And I was blaming the Scots...somebody on another thread pointed out that this may have been payback for Obama's release of Uighur (Chinese Muslim) terrorists in Bermuda without informing the British government.

How is it that the Brits can release this terrorist to a hero’s welcome, shake his hand, give him a suit, treat him like a dignitary, but a talk-show host is banned from Britain? What kind of screwed-up priorities are those?

Why should Brown care?

Obammy treated his most disrespectfully, and then repeated his disgraceful, post-colonialist MauMau derived behavior with the Queen of England.

When America puts someone like Obama in the White House, why should any nation respect us?

Considering what America lost I cannot believe the decision was not presented to Washington for comments, objections.

Obama and the Whizzer "wee-wee" Kids probably saw the guy as a victim of our CIA and Reagan-Bush.

“while senior Labour figures warned of an economic backlash from angry Americans costing our country dear”.

Like, duh!

I guess the idea of an Obama connection would strike me as having something of a conspiracy touch to it. In honsety though it is such a royal screw-up akin to stimmulus, bank bailouts and obamacare ~ how could one possibly rule this out.

The fact that Obama is seemingly leaving, at least, the Scottish hanging out to dry only creates a greater pause for thought.

...this was a terrible decision....AND...I think in some small way this will hurt Obama....something like this never would have happened when Reagan and Thatcher were calling the shots...even Bush and Tony Blair wouldn’t have let this happen....people will see this release as a sign of how soft Obama is on terrorism....a strong president wouldn’t have permitted it.

Good.

He should resign in shame for letting this happen, and that Scot judge needs involuntary committment because he is truly nuts.

Even if he knew, this is a total blindspot to Obama. Stuff that normal Americans get ~ he is totally out of touch with.

RE: a terrorist is freed and embraced (virtually) "but a talk-show host is banned from Britain"

If Savage were to be permitted entry there'd be deadly riots. No telling how many Brits the radical Muslims would kill. Savage is in the sights of the worlds biggest terrorist nation, Iran.

Iran gets in on the Michael Savage bashing.

Of course it was. An administration that cared one whit about it could have stopped it. That's not what we have now.

Oh, I agree. If it is absolutely certain that Brown did this, I think he’s insane. But it is possible that he was PO’d at Bambi. Not an excuse, but at least something worth considering in thinking about The One’s effect on the world.

I think it probably was approved, at least tacitly, by Obama. My suspicion is that Brown wanted to get back at us for releasing the Uighurs in Bermuda, but still didn’t dare (because he doesn’t realize how much our Muslim CIC hates the US) to release this guy without notifying Obama first and then hiding behind Scotland.

Heck, Obama was probably naming a date after this guy when he got released. This is the beginning of Ramadan, when Bambi is conveniently up on Martha’s Vinyard, and the tradition is to name the best date of Ramadan after your personal hero. After Bambi’s video release of his Ramadan statement yesterday, the vendors on the way to Mecca have now named their favorite date “Obama.”

Gordon Brown didn’t have to worry. Obama hates the US much more than does Brown.

I think BP and Shell are the best targets. That and not traveling there are the best ways to hit them where it hurts.

Ok on BP but isn’t Shell owned by the Dutch?

The first reports I read blamed the Scottish nationalist movement, which I thought was actually possible because these people are like the Basques: they’d be nobody without the larger country, but they are resentful about this and now, in this Balkanizing age, they want to go their own way. Lots o luck, and may they maintain their own nuclear defense...

In any case, if it turns out that Brown was behind this and blamed the Scots, I think they should really turn on him. And if Obama was behind Brown, which I’m sure he was...this was a “compassionate release” for Ramadan...then the Scots and the US both should turn on our Muslim-in-Chief.
