Travel Icon Says He'll Avoid Arizona Because of Gun Laws
Fox News ^ | August 21, 2009 | N/A

Travel icon Arthur Frommer says he won't be spending his tourism dollars at the Grand Canyon, or anywhere else in Arizona, because the state's laws allow people he described as "thugs" and "extremists" to openly carry firearms.

The author of budget-travel guides said on his blog Wednesday that he was "shocked beyond measure" by reports that protesters openly carried guns and rifles outside a Phoenix building where President Barack Obama spoke on Monday.

Frommer says he won't personally travel in a state where civilians carry loaded weapons as a means of political protest.

Thankfully he, or his leftists readers, won’t be coming to Virginia either as we have open carry. Don’t buy his books and boycott his advertisers. Pretty soon, Whole Foods will be the only store I enter.

I travel quite a bit, so I have a fairly extensive bookshelf of travel guides.

I just checked the shelf and I only have one Frommer's Guide to Hawaii. Wonder if I should send it back to Mr. Frommer... and include a copy of the Heritage Foundation's Constitution of the United States?

I remember visiting Tombstone a few years ago. A number of the clerks in the stores carried revolvers on their hips. The wife and I were traveling with her sister and bro-in-law from England. I don’t know what they thought about it, but they didn’t say anything.

Probably thought they were "stage gun" props. Little did they know.

Where the guns single action revolvers, double action revolvers or semi-autos? If the first, they might have been props.

Frommer’s ignorance of Arizona is shocking.

Frommer says he won't personally travel in a state where civilians carry loaded weapons as a means of political protest.

So I guess he'd prefer Washington DC, NYC, or Philly, where 'civilians' carry concealed weapons, without permits, with the intention of actually HURTING other folks./s

If it’s THE Arthur Frommer v a successor, he’s older than the Grand Canyon.

Frommer was THE budget traveler’s authoritative guide in the 50s-70s before the Internet. Not so sure how hot a seller it is, but probably still a good book if you want to get best bang for your buck. Still, as to Frommer himself, who cares?

Quit your bed wetting you old queen. I would rather live in an area that had open carry than one that didn't, all things being equal.

Vermont is a ahead of Texas in open carry? Hard to believe.

Oh, it's true. The laws against open carry were instituted after the Civil War, during the carpet bagger era, but were only enforced for "carrying while black", and sometimes "carrying while brown". Below is the history of the Texas' RKBA Constitutional provision ( courtesy of Volokh, other state's provisions also at the link):

Texas: Every citizen shall have the right to keep and bear arms in the lawful defense of himself or the State; but the Legislature shall have power, by law, to regulate the wearing of arms, with a view to prevent crime. Art. I, § 23 (enacted 1876).

1836: "Every citizen shall have the right to bear arms in defence of himself and the republic. The military shall at all times and in all cases be subordinate to the civil power." Declaration of Rights, cl. 14.

1845: "Every citizen shall have the right to keep and bear arms in lawful defence of himself or the State." Art. I, § 13.

1868: "Every person shall have the right to keep and bear arms in the lawful defence of himself or the State, under such regulations as the legislature may prescribe."

As you can see the first encroachment was in 1868, under the carpetbaggers. The second, leading to the current language, was probably enacted with the "carrying while black" intent.

Wonder if the facts ever will get reported on this incident. Those were NOT protesters displaying the guns. It was a publicity stunt. A radio guy and some Ron Paul supporters cooked up the stunt and the cops were in on it. The truth, please, the truth. I’m sick of people saying the protesters were wearing guns.

I wish he'd of said that about Wisconsin. It might help keep the "Liberal Loons" at home. A big chunk of the state's income is from tourism, a big part of that is hunting and fishing. I'll take the "blood sport" hunters from out of state any day, they are always welcome, but the limp-wristed liberal with a Volvo full of whinny kids should really visit Illinois or Minnesota and give us a pass.

Regards
GtG

There was a case over in Sun Valley a few years back where the cops rousted a couple of guys sitting in a pickup truck in front of a bar. The judge asked for their probable cause. The cops said they had guns displayed in a rack in the back window. The judge threw the case out.

Sounds like the dud should avoid the United States altogether. That pesky Bill of Rights causes all kinds of problems with statists.

..if it wasn’t for murders, DC would have a low crime rate.
= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =
Why YES he did
He also said (While discussing why there was a prison for DC hoodlums some 30 miles away in Lorton VA)..

“If it wasn’t for Lorton, some of these boys would NEVER get out of SE (Washington).”

He also told the mother of 18 (whose darling family had just stripped ANOTHER house) that she was a disgrace.

See, MB had a few good points...
