Pelosi: No bill without public option
Foreshadowing a House-Senate showdown, Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Thursday there is "no way" the House can pass a health care bill without a government-run insurance option.
Speaking at a news conference in San Francisco, Pelosi told reporters that a public option will "keep insurance companies honest."
Theres no way I can pass a bill in the House of Representatives without a public option, the California Democrat said, according to wire reports. "Unless someone comes up with a better idea, that's how we're going forth in the House."
Pelosi reportedly added: "If someone can come up with a better idea, let them put it on the table, we haven't heard that yet. ... So we're fighting very hard for the public option."
Obama on Thursday told liberal activists and a conservative talk show host that he continues to support a public option, but said it was only a piece of a broader health reform package and continues to signal that it's not a make-or-break issue for him.
Meantime, the Senate seems likely to drop the controversial plan from any bill it proposes. Sen. Kent Conrad (D-S.D.), a key negotiator on the Finance Committee, has emphatically said there aren't enough votes in the Senate to approve a bill with a government-run option.
"It's very clear that there are not the votes in the United States Senate for a public option," Conrad said Thursday on Fox Business Network.
Who will win this game of chicken?
Yeah tell this sl-t that the po is the only way to go
Hey Stretch,
Keep your laws off my BODY!
Well the way I read the article is she knows the liberals will jumop ship withut the PO, throw in 98% of the republicans and a landslide of Blue Dogs and you got a 100-335 rout. It will lose also with the PO. Bad and worse they have boxed themselves into.
This is already a done (back room) deal. House bill is the fascistic piece of crap we’ve seen on the web. Senate will pass a “moderate” bill. Then, in conference, Pelosi gets everything she wants again and it’s rammed down our throats.

I agree. I just enjoy using their favorite line, which they seem to have abandondedddd.
Are you talking about the bill or Nazi Pelosi?
Between all the terms they coin to avoid calling things by the common names/descriptors, they fool only their voterbase (which is the great un-washed, minorities, and criminals).
The battle lines are drawn now, between the freedoms of the Constitution, or the programs the socialists are shoving up our a$$e$ because they are currently the Majority in both Houses, and can't be stoppded.
It’s all or nuthin’.
Which is fine by me.
LLS
Okay. Let's test the system by applying it Congress first for a few years.
If the idea is make Insurance reduce their profits; why don’t they open up public options for every type industry, retail store, and service in the US. Better yet, why not let the government take over everything so no one makes a profit....
Actually - both
When the House and Senate fight, America wins. It’s when they cooperate that we’d better hold fast our valuables.
Me too. No bill sounds good to me.
No bill? Sounds great to me.
No public option, no bill? No bill it is.
Instead:
What if we suggested that individual senators and congresscritters could sign up truly needy constituents onto the congress’ health care plan? They get to pick who truly needs this and they simply add them to the congressional tab.
We cover all the needy people the congress is willing to take responsibility for publicly, we save over a trillion dollars I would think.
Then the second step is to implement all the waste reduction and savings they constantly say are possible. Can’t they do this without spending a bunch of money? If they know there’s waste then go after it and, with all the money they save - and ONLY with the money they save - can they start spending on other things they’d like to have.
Next we will have to have government home insurance, government life insurance, and government car insurance to keep all those companies honest.
This gang claiming to keep anyone honest is a joke.
“I’m shocked, shocked that gambling is going on in here”.
Nancy wants to compare the protesters to nazi’s, well nancy, your party has adopted the death head of the german ss.
