NYT: DEMS PLAN TO GO IT ALONE ON HEATHCARE... DEVELOPING...

Democrats see little chance for GOP cooperation on health care

WASHINGTON — Given hardening Republican opposition to congressional health care proposals, Democrats now say they see little chance for the minority's cooperation in approving any overhaul, and are increasingly focused on drawing support for a final plan from within their own ranks.

Top Democrats said Tuesday that their go-it-alone view was being shaped by what they saw as Republicans' purposely strident tone against health care legislation during this month's congressional recess, as well as remarks by leading Republicans that current proposals were flawed beyond repair.

The White House spokesman, Robert Gibbs, said of Republican lawmakers, "Only a handful seem interested in the type of comprehensive reform that so many people believe is necessary to ensure the principles and the goals that the president has laid out."

The Democratic shift may not make producing a final bill much easier. The party must still reconcile the views of moderate and conservative Democrats worried about the cost and scope of the legislation with those of more progressive lawmakers determined to win a government-run insurance option to compete with private insurers..........

Evidence?

How about every other socialistic program they’ve managed to foist on the American people.

We can’t even think about turning back the relatively smaller ones we have now, i.e., Medicaid, Medicare, SS, etc.

Name a Republican with the guts to do anything a tenth as bold?

Do you think people will want to give up their ‘free’ health plan once in place?

Do you think politicians, right or left, will want to cede that power, or that money back to the people? Ha!

Good luck.

Like I said, not a chance in hell.

The current plan, HR 3200 envisions a five year phased in implementation program. If, and it is a big if, the Reps can gain control of the House, then they can throw a monkey wrench into the implementation process. Welfare reform helped roll back some of these socialist programs, but it will be difficult.

I agree. Just like the stimulus bill the Dems place an escape clause via implementation timetables. If worse comes to worse reversals can be made but overall the Dems leave this as a last resort. In the meantime they will bitch and moan that the (stimulus, health care, cap and trade) hasn't had a chance to show it's worth when in reality a bill's main trigger, by design, hasn't even been pulled yet.

If most Americans were properly informed they would know that only 11% of the "stimulus bill" was to be spent this year. Needless to say said public also doesn't even know how much in the bill had nothing to do with stimulating but building Dem constituencies.

"I believe gridlock was what we need"

Here's to hoping the future gridlock is between the Republicans, Libertarians, and Constitution Party members (with the dems having been sent to the dust bin of history). That would be a great thing.

The New York Times...bringing you yesterday’s news next week.

I mean, hasn’t much of this been self-evident for a week or so? I suppose the Left is still trying to make people believe that if health care doesn’t pass, it will be Republicans who are to blame when, in all truth, the GOP can’t pass anything other than gas.

The Dems don’t need Grandma’s vote anyway. ACORN will be sure to cast her ballot after she’s dead.

LOL. The Democrats can pass anything it wants. The Reps can’t stop them. Far better for them to own it alone. Hopefully, we can make them pay a price for that decision.

however it goes, WE ALL will be paying the price

The Co-op option is the same thing, but in sheep’s clothing.

And rattle them more until they’re 100% defeated, because they’re too diehard determined to win by flipping the United States upside down.

In reality, one-party rule brings widespread corruption.

Republicans buckle to public pressure more easily. Ironic, isn’t it? Funny how undemocratic the democrats are.

“In reality, one-party rule brings widespread corruption.”

In the long term, yes. In the short term? Depends on the party.

What concerns me is even if conservatives take the congress back in ‘10, the o is still prez and WILL veto anything that will change ‘his plan’. Also, will ACORN commit so much vote fraud that we can not take congress back?

They could have always done the bill without GOP support but they need a fall guy they can call bipartisan when it destroys our financial system beyond repair.

Rigggght! Like this drive to rationed health care has been so "bipartisan" - and the Dims are telling the NY Slimes they are switching gears?

I'll tell you what this really is.

The Dims know it is dead, and they are setting the groundwork to blame the Republicans with this massive distraction, rather than expose the rift in their own ranks.

Reversing or stopping this fiasco would be like trying to turn over a beached whale. Imagine trying to get rid of a lesser entity such as, oh, the Dept. of Education. Tentacles go so far and wide that once installed, this behemoth expansion couldn’t be DYNAMITED out.
