WASHINGTON Given hardening Republican opposition to congressional health care proposals, Democrats now say they see little chance for the minority's cooperation in approving any overhaul, and are increasingly focused on drawing support for a final plan from within their own ranks.
Top Democrats said Tuesday that their go-it-alone view was being shaped by what they saw as Republicans' purposely strident tone against health care legislation during this month's congressional recess, as well as remarks by leading Republicans that current proposals were flawed beyond repair.
The White House spokesman, Robert Gibbs, said of Republican lawmakers, "Only a handful seem interested in the type of comprehensive reform that so many people believe is necessary to ensure the principles and the goals that the president has laid out."
The Democratic shift may not make producing a final bill much easier. The party must still reconcile the views of moderate and conservative Democrats worried about the cost and scope of the legislation with those of more progressive lawmakers determined to win a government-run insurance option to compete with private insurers..........
Your evidence for this claim?
The downside is these fools think obamas approval rating will go back up to 80% within a week after this bill is signed
the sad truth is, it might. PT Barnum was right.
It's actually rather sad that people are contemplating recall for the congress. Not that many of these Congressional reprobates don't deserve it, but because the House was designed to precisely reflect the contemporary mood of the country. It was to be held hostage to the populist outrage of the electorate. But, because of 236 years of gerrymandering, far too many US Representatives go virtually unchallenged each election cycle. What you have essentially are 45 to 55 seats that are actually in play each year. Not good.
“According to Dick Morris, the essence of the plan is to take money from Grandma through Medicare cuts, and give to immigrants.
So, if they ram this through, they’ve got to ram Amnesty through to, so as to get those votes to save them.”
Sadly, from the get-go cause of the housing crisis (”Ownership Society”) to the stimulus (refinancing and jobs for illegals), healthcare (for illegals) and the coming amnesty....it’s always been about continuing to catering to the illegal aliens already in this country. It’s a bipartisan effort...he who does it best gains the vote.
Without healthcare reform, IMO, Obama is a failure to his party...they WILL NOT allow this to fail. They’ll vote without us.
” On Olberman last night, .. That gives 42 votes FOR the deal.”
I watched a few minutes of Obamaman tonight and he and Larry O’Donnell were two very unhappy campers.
Which is why I kept watching.
They were under the impression that Obamacare was on life support.
And near death.
Of course, never count out the stupid Senate Republicans.
They’ll probably give it CPR.
If they do this then unless they are in a very liberla district they can pretty much count on being voted out the next time. 80% of us don’t want the governemnt involved in our healthcare and are happy with what we have. If they do this then the next congress will just come in reverse everything and it will all be for naught. I personally think the powers that be are looking for the reaction to this so we should be screaming bloody murder over the new news!
This plan has been engineered by Ezekiel Emanuel, who is the modern day Democrat successor to Dr. Mengele.
Read the plan here:

Dick Morris is right on in his analysis.
Penelopesire, I think they know exactly how real our anger is. They just don’t care. They have decided that they are going to do what they want, regardless of what we think.
Someone upthread, (sorry, I neglected to note the poster), said Obama had been quoted recently as saying that he did not care if he was a one term President, that he was pushing Healthcare through. IMHO, his true goal is to reduce this nation to rubble, in order to rebuild it as a socialist state. Hence - “Punch back twice as hard.”
Tatt
Right but do you agree Obama/Emanuel are steering this? You are correct though.
At least they use their super majority to their own benefit. If the GOP did that to further a small-government plan, we wouldn’t be in such a mess.
Hiroshima was a pile of rubble and is now a thriving city.
I am sad to say that the same (though only metaphorically) may be required here. People will only “get it” once this trash passes, as they have with TARP, cap and trade and on and on.
This is a trial balloon and nothing else.
God bless ya for watching that fool.
At this rate, I do not think there will be a 2010 election.
Social Security & Medicair are people's exhibits one and two. Big social programs are not ever dismantled, at least not before now. I suppose that there's always a chance for this happening, but historical precedent isn't very promising.
And, make no mistake, this would be the biggest expansion of the Federal Government, ever. It wouldn't happen overnight, but eventually - and probably faster than many think - the Feds would be in control of one sixth of our GDP. How do you walk that back? You don't.
