Granted, only a qualified mental health diagnostician (which I am not) can determine whether someone suffers from Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD) and this, following lengthy tests and personal interviews. But, in the absence of access to Barack Obama, one has to rely on his overt performance and on testimonies by his closest, nearest and dearest.
Narcissistic leaders are nefarious and their effects pernicious. They are subtle, refined, socially-adept, manipulative, possessed of thespian skills, and convincing. Both types equally lack empathy and are ruthless and relentless or driven.
Perhaps it is time to require each candidate to high office in the USA to submit to a rigorous physical and mental checkup with the results made public.
I. Upbringing and Childhood
Obama's early life was decidedly chaotic and replete with traumatic and mentally bruising dislocations. Mixed-race marriages were even less common then. His parents went through a divorce when he was an infant (two years old). Obama saw his father only once again, before he died in a car accident. Then, his mother re-married and Obama had to relocate to Indonesia: a foreign land with a radically foreign culture, to be raised by a step-father. At the age of ten, he was whisked off to live with his maternal (white) grandparents. He saw his mother only intermittently in the following few years and then she vanished from his life in 1979. She died of cancer in 1995.
Pathological narcissism is a reaction to prolonged abuse and trauma in early childhood or early adolescence. The source of the abuse or trauma is immaterial: the perpetrators could be dysfunctional or absent parents, teachers, other adults, or peers.

BTW, Personality Disorders, as found in DSM-IV, are not really treatable.
Psychologist and Psychiatrists are slow to make the diagnosis, since there is no therapy and they can’t really charge anything due to this condition.
In the old days it was just called self-centered and immature. If the person in question is a child, the cure is a stick applied to the bun. If the person in question is an adult, the best cure is the bigger stick of reality, humiliation, or disaster.
If the person in question is in power over a country, buckle up for a 75 year rough ride, with prolonged social disorder after that. See Russia.

Obama’s psychopathic narcissism was revealed during the campaign, but of course it got scant attention. It’s unmistakeable. What causes shivers is the sheer number of people who are willingly taken in. It’s like the women who marry psychopathic serial killers in prison. These are the enablers, who seem to take a perverse pleasure in assisting the psychopath achieve his goals.
I’d say he was “Marxististic”. ;)

He is a politician and what’s more, the most powerful one there is. They all have these traits.
Have at it -- but it's no "bombshell" that Obama is an extreme narcissist.
That was my guess.
