I can only hope the debate over healthcare and every other piece of legislation can be framed with his question.

By the way, Cardin's response is so far from accurate it amazes me.

Could you paraphrase for those of us who are ‘youtube’ deprived, for one reason or another??

In essence, Cardin's respone was: "In order to promote the general health and welfare of the nation, we will impose Obama Care...for your own good...and thereby regulate and lessen the quality of health and welfare for all."

Good for this guy. The deathcare is not about healthcare. It is another sneaky form of government to take away the rights of American citizens. The Tarp bill and Stimulos bills do the same as well as Cap and Trade.

Expose these hacks for what they are.

Legislate for the general welfare “of the people” of this nation?

My Constitution must be broken, because it doesn’t say anything in there about the general welfare “of the people”.

Maybe Cardin can send me one of his.

This is copied and pasted from the information part of the site, but I was unable to access the video myself, so I have to go on trust here.... Funny how Youtube always seems to have technical issues with videos such as this...

“”As a citizen of the United States and a Marylander, I order you to cease and desist under the 9th and 10th Amendment and Article 1 Section 8 of the United States Constitution to addressing the Healthcare legislation.

If you do not stop, I charge you Sen. Cardin with usurping authority not granted to you as a United States Senator.

What is the enumerated power in Article 1 Section 8 that youre acting under to give you the authority? I dont want hear General Welfare, Commerce, or Necessary and Proper. “”

Just like the Natural Born Citizen question in the Constitution, promote the general welfare needs to be discussed at length. The history behind it and the Supreme Court decision upholding Social Security need to be scrutinized.

While we are at it the 13th amendment prohibits slavery, and a mandatory program that forces you to take insurance or pay a penalty enforced by IRS in effect is slavery and involuntary servitude. An unsustainable debt of 60 trillion dollars is also slavery/involuntary servitude and taxation without representation as that debt will have to be paid by future generations that are not even here yet and are not represented in Congress.

13th Amendment
Section 1. Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.

Section 2. Congress shall have the power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.

HOW CAN A DEBT OF 60 TRILLION DOLLARS BE ACCUMULATED WHEN IT MUST BE PAID BY FUTURE GENERATIONS THAT CANNOT VOTE YET AND MAY NOT BE BORN YET? TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION. “REPRESENTATIVES” THAT VOTE FOR TAXATION AGAINST THEIR CONSTITUENTS WISHES SHOULD BE REMOVED.

I suggest our Congress & President read the history of the founding of this Nation. Below is from letter vii - John Dickinson, Empire and Nation: Letters from a Farmer in Pennsylvania

http://oll.libertyfund.org/?option=com_staticxt&staticfile=show.php%3Ftitle=690&chapter=102306&layout=html&Itemid=27

excerpt letter vii, John Dickinson:

.....My position is this—I repeat it—I will maintain it to my last hour—TAXATION and REPRESENTATION are inseparable—this position is founded on the laws of nature; it is more, it is itself AN ETERNAL LAW OF NATURE; for whatever is a man’s own, is absolutely his own; NO MAN HATH A RIGHT TO TAKE IT FROM HIM WITHOUT HIS CONSENT, either expressed by himself or representative; whoever attempts to do it, attempts an injury; WHOEVER DOES IT, COMMITS A ROBBERY; HE THROWS DOWN THE DISTINCTION BETWEEN LIBERTY AND SLAVERY.” “There is not a blade of grass, which, when taxed, was not taxed by the consent of the proprietor.” “The forefathers of the Americans did not leave their native country, and subject themselves to every danger and distress, TO BE REDUCED TO A STATE OF SLAVERY. They did not give up their rights: They looked for protection, and not for CHAINS, from their mother country. By her they expected to be defended in the possession of their property, and not to be deprived of it: For should the present power continue, THERE IS NOTHING WHICH THEY CAN CALL THEIR OWN; or, to use the words of Mr. Locke, “WHAT PROPERTY HAVE THEY IN THAT, WHICH ANOTHER MAY, BY RIGHT, TAKE, WHEN HE PLEASES, TO HIMSELF?”......

Hey, can you think of a better way to reducing the looming social security mess. Next on Obama’s agenda is providing free cigarettes to those over 60.

Question: How is ObamaCare permissible in light of the 9th and 10th Amendments to the U.S. Constitution?

Note: The 9th Amendment grants the Feds only the powers specifically listed in Constitution -- no more. The 10th Amendment grants all powers not specifically listed in the Constitution to the States.

Answer: Cardin basically had no response.

I’d wager most of the Dhims in Congress haven’t read the Constitution. To them it is merely an obstacle; they can do what they wish, because “they won.”

They admire dictators such as Stalin, Mao, Castro, etc., because secretly they envy their absolute power to do whatever they wanted to do in their respective serfdoms.

That was freaking awesome! Probably for a lot of those people that was the first time they heard of the Article 1 Section 8 and the 9th & 10th Amendment.

I have perused Article I, Section 8, and the healthcare clause is right there, below “forts, dockyards, arsenals, and other needful buildings.” :-D

In all seriousness, I doubt that Cardin even knows what the 9th Amendment stipulates, much less the actual enumerated powers in Article I, Section 8.

Maryland “Freak State” PING!

Yes, there is. Phase it out (this will take some time), and the payroll tax along with it. Pass the disability portion down to the several states.
