White House Reviews Names of Recipients of Unsolicited E-Mail on Health Care
Fox News ^ | 8/14/09 | Fox News

Posted on 08/14/2009 8:47:56 AM PDT by nmh

...

The WH maintains a massive e-mail list as part of its effort to promote its position on pressing issues. On Thursday, senior adviser David Axelrod used the list to send out a "chain" e-mail asking supporters of health care reforms backed by the administration to forward his rebuttal to criticism circulating on Internet.

The mail offered reasons to support Obama's agenda and tried to debunk what the White House decries as myths in the health care debate.

...

But some people who received the e-mails directly from the White House forwarded them to FOX News and asked how they ended up on the list when they've never been in communication with the Obama administration. Some wondered if visiting the White House Web site automatically places them on an e-mail distribution list.

...

Asked whether the White House seeks other pieces of information to identify those who might be curious about health care even though they have never signed up for e-mails or visited the Web site, Gibbs said he would have to see the e-mails to know.

Pressed to explain why he couldn't answer, Gibbs said "Well, I hesitate to give you an answer because you might impugn the motives of the answer."

"Why would you say that?" Garrett asked incredulously.

"Because of the way you phrased your follow up. I'd have to look at what you got, Major. I appreciate the fact that I have omnipotent clarity as to what you've received in your e-mail box today," Gibbs said.

"You don't have to have omnipotent clarity. You don't have to impugn anything," Garrett fired back. "I'm telling you what I got: e-mails from people who said I never asked anything from the White House."

Ending the exchange, Gibbs said, "Let me go someplace else that might be constructive."

Doesn’t sound like he had used that e-mail to get onto a FOX distribution list....

The email account I set up was used in 2 places flag@whitehouse.gov and the whitehouse website so the spam is from them as I never used it anywhere else.

“You don’t have to have omnipotent clarity. “

When Gibbs said that it’s apparent that Hussein’s minions are as stupid as he is. I’m pretty sure he meant “omniscient” — but that’s a pretty big word for an ignorant man.

You are misunderstanding the story. FNC is reporting what people have told them, not forwarding peoples emails to the White House. Gibbs wants to see the email addresses to check against their list of subscribers.

No. The White House and Congress do not share computer systems, let alone servers. What’s more, the House and the Senate have separate systems and do not share servers, either. Of course that does not preclude individual members, or, say the Democrat Conference, from providing the White House with lists. But there is no direct access, and Congress guards its systems and servers like a hawk.

Is that true? Are you 100% certain? If so, that is big news. The WH cyber czar resigns. The WH announces flag program. That can’t be coincidence. The czar had inside information about how it would be used and knew it was wrong. She resigned rather than be a party to it.

Just Wow! If you’re sure about this info, you need to write a short article and post it. I’m sure Fox staffers are assigned to read articles and comments here about Fox. We know Bill O’Reilly’s staff does.

I think the WH has creates a blast e-mail list from every list they had/have and are creating.

Some of this is highly illegal. The WH is prohibited by law to create lists for any purpose!!!!!!! They can only respond to requests for info.

I think they know it's illegal. I think they figure it will not mean squat if someone sues or if there is any investigation, as they will do nothing to move the process and they figure eight years is a long time.

Tyrants are now in charge......That's what they do and will continue to do.

Okay, so the concern is there that FOX subscribers are getting unwanted, pro Obama health care e-mails.

I see no reason for FOX subscribers to lie.

No where in the story does it say Fox is getting flack from the people who emailed Garrett. I have read the story twice, and I can't find it. Perhaps my eyes are deceiving me.

What I see in the story is that the emails were forwarded to Garrett at Fox so he could ask about them at a White House press conference, which he did. According to the story you posted, Fox and Garrett aren't getting flack from the people who forwarded the emails to Garrett, they are getting flack from the White House.

The story is badly written, but it says, "FOX News obtained permission from some of the e-mailers who sent their concerns to FOX News and forwarded them to the White House. No explanation has yet been received." What it means to say is "FOX News obtained permission from some of the recipients of the White House e-mails, who had forwarded their emails and their concerns to FOX News, and after getting that permission, Fox News forwarded the messages to the White House (with the permission of the recipients) so the White House can determine who sent the original recipients the emails in the first place."

"Except I started getting mine in June...

Snitch site was born Aug.4. So, we can now assume that they were collecting info weeks before the Flag addy was announced. I wonder if all the emails that Major Garret was referring to were dated 8/4 or prior, like yours. I don't believe he addressed that.

Ahhhh.........

Now I remember why I don't post here very much any longer.

The people who are left here, after the various purges, have little or no sense of humor.

This is the same issue they have on the left after they toss all their moderates and conservative dems.

It is what it is........

Have a nice day.

People around the world receive e-mail correspondence from the white house.

They say WTH is going on here, I never subscribed to any list for White house correspondence.

Some of these people say, hey I’m going to send these White house correspondence into FOX to see if FOX can get to the bottom of this. Like maybe “Why are we receiving White house correspondence”? We know that FOX is on the Americans side and will find out WTH is up with these e-mails.

FOX now asks on behalf of the e-mails that they are receiving from irate people (NOT necessarily FOX subscribers) why are these people receiving e-mails from the White house when they never subscribed to your e-mail list?

Of course the White house would not give any information and wants FOX to give them names of people that sent in e-mails to FOX about WHITE HOUSE CORRESPONDENCE so they can check their list of subscribers.

Did that clear it up for you or are you going to still insist that FOX did something wrong. It is like I receive an e-mail from the White house. I send this e-mail to FOX saying geez can you figure this out for me since I don’t understand why I’m on the white house list. FOX checks it out for me. Comprehend?

This is so wrong. I know some people will find it petty and dismiss the importance but seriously, their tactics scare the hell out of me. I marked them all as spam now but that won’t take me off the list unfortunately. I would love to know exactly how they got my info because depending upon the source, they may have my IP addy, Home addy, banking info etc. I do sign up for lots of things where that info is part of the process so it is very scary.

Now, FOX is getting flack from the people who e-mailed Garrett abut getting UNWANTED e-mails from the WH.

Where are you getting that, what is the source for this, please? I ask as it makes no sense to me, why would people who contacted FOX's White House correspondent be giving them flak for doing what it would be assumed is the reason for the emails being sent to Garrett in the first place, ask the White House spokesmouth why they are coming unsolicited, no prior contact, for us in your next session, will you, Major??

Unless said persons are concerned their names are now going to be exposed by virtue of their specific emails being questioned, otherwise, I'm not understanding what the problem is for them.

Maybe I should not have, but last night (before marking them as SPAM) I forwarded them to Major Garrett and some were from June then sent him. I also pointed that out. He unfortunately is not really in a good position to browbeat this issue because of who he is. I know he is the only person at fox that is ever allowed to talk to Gibbs however at some point he will be look like a fanatic unfortunately. I do hope he at least keeps asking for a while and then maybe someone else will continue the quest.

Don’t worry missamyb, he is going to continue to browbeat Gibbs on this issue. I just saw him on about 1 hour ago stating that he asked 4 times and still didn’t get an answer. He will continue to pursue!

Amazing isn’t it! At least we still have journalists out there that do their job rather than just yessing these JA... I wish everyone would just wake up and see what is happening here.

I sure hope so but I have a feeling we may hear him saying “ I have contacted gibbs 2000 times now..... “ And at some point, the execs at Fox will have to force him off the issue. Maybe I am too cynical but I have seen it happen before. His heart is in the right place but he does have boss and business decisions usually trump ethics. At the very least this has raised a few eyebrows and raised others even more than before. We are chipping away at this administration, one scandal at a time. Phishgate being the latest but the day is still early! People and Phish cannot coexist :)

Social “Justice:” Police Interviewing “Suspect” Who Put up Obama Joker Posters, Deeming it Vandalism
—Ace

Well, you know, it is vandalism. It is also vandalism when Obama Cultists put up his HOPE poster. Or when kids put up their dumb ads for their bands.

All these things are vandalism, technically. By and large the cops don’t sweat it.

All that’s different with The One, though.

CLERMONT - Clermont police have interviewed one suspect who is admitting to putting up the dozens of posters pasted around the city depicting President Obama as the Joker character from the Batman film The Dark Knight, city officials confirmed.

Assistant City Manager Darren Gray said city officials have an individual “admitting to putting up 500” of the posters.

Clermont Police Capt. Eric Jensen said the male individual has admitted to putting up some signs, but investigators suspect others were involved and their investigation is continuing.

“We have talked to an individual,” Jensen said. “He only admitted to some of it...We’re still tracking down leads and talking to folks. We have not arrested anybody.”

At this point officials are not sure how much damage was caused by the signs or the dollar amount associated with the clean-up.

Dozens of the posters were pasted around the city earlier this week. A pair of the posters were pasted to a Clermont Post Office collection box. They prompted the postmaster to contact the Postal Inspector’s office, which is looking at potential federal crimes for defacing federal property.

City officials, meanwhile, are trying to determine what local crimes might be associated with the posting of the images on public and private properties. They’ve also been busy ripping down the sticky signs because they’re a violation of city ordinance regarding illegal signs.

They’ve got a suspect, but they’re still trying to figure out the crime he’s to be prosecuted for.

Unbelievable.
