In a public forum defined as much by passionate declarations on abortion as by statements about health care policy intricacies, U.S. Rep. Ahn "Joseph" Cao, R-New Orleans, said Thursday that he "leans" toward supporting the House Democrats' vision of a medical system overhaul provided it won't pay for procedures to end pregnancy.
"The word is 'leaning,' " he repeated to about 150 people gathered at an Irish Channel Neighborhood Association meeting, the first of four planned public forums for Cao during the August recess.
Besides the abortion caveat, Cao further tempered his statement with his concerns about how major policy changes affect the federal budget, future deficit projections, the larger economy and Medicare recipients.
"These are issues that concern the president as well," Cao said, adding one of his many references to the complexity of the proposals and his continued struggle on a decision.

Pelican State ping
Say it ain’t so, Joe!
dump him
Had hopes for this guy, but seems he’s hopeless.
Well you better start "leaning" the other way, like your constituents are telling you to. The words are "other way", and "or else". MmmK?
One of the reasons that I don't trust the Fed on any of this, especially as it relates to “death panels” and taxpayer funded abortion, is that you know that once the bill has been passed these items will be inserted into the coverage in some way.
Anything that has been removed by the Dems will simply be put back in to serve their dark agenda.
Cao is very naive.
have constituents ask him if he is planning on going on the public option himself. Ask if CONGRESS will be REQUIRED to join the plan or if they are still exempting themselves. If they pass it, they should be required to USE it! If it is NOT GOOD ENOUGH FOR CONGRESS, IT IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH FOR THE AMERICAN PEOPLE. PERIOD! Drive this point home at every town hall, in every letter, and get this question ON TAPE at every townhall you can, with your congresscritter admitting they are exempting themselves!!!
“U.S. [Republican] Rep. Ahn ‘Joseph’ Cao says he’s ‘leaning’ toward House Democrats”
Follow Arlen. I hope you have the same results that he is about to against Toomey.
call his office now
He checked the box marked “Elitist.”
I feel genuinely sorry for this guy.
He ended up representing a majority african-american district, but he’s fairly conservative. And a freshman member of the house.
No matter what he does, he’s screwed.
Let’s hope he’s not the deciding vote on the health care disaster.
and the more town halls that we can prove that, the more support for this plan will drop :)
Hey Schmoe...talk to your GOVERNOR JINDAL and see what he says!!! IDIOT.
Another closet communist.
I guess Cao as a place holder wants to get as much attention as possible during his two years as a Representative. My guess is that district will revert back to a full fledged democrat in 2010.
I don’t feel sorry for him.
“Always do what is right. It will gratify half of mankind and astound the other.”
Mark Twain
We do have the maxim “No good deed goes unpunished.” around our home, but it’s a joke. You are never “screwed” for doing the right thing.
Self imposed term limit!!!!
Any Republican who supports this bill should get absolutely zero support from the Republican party for re-election.
Well, this guy’s rising star has jumped the shark! And so early in his political career. Another RINO in the making. Time to look for someone else.
Joe must have never kept a personal budget.
Or maybe he can’t add numbers once they get past a TRILLION or so.
On the numbers alone, no sane rep should support this.
USA, now the world’s greatest debtor nation and debating whether to throw another couple TRILLION onto the pile by the end of the year to “fix” something 5% of the people have a problem with. Congress, you do us proud....SARC
