'BBC America has picked up the US rights to air the upcoming fifth season of Doctor Who, it has been announced.
The new run, which sees Matt Smith take over from David Tennant in the lead role, is currently being filmed in Cardiff, Wales. The thirteen-episode fifth season will air on BBC America and BBC America HD in Q2 2010 shortly after its UK premiere.'

Oh joy, 13 more new Dr. Who episodes! I’ll have to get used to the new doctor. I need to wash and wax my TARDIS, too. Meanwhile, BBC America is running the ludicrous, boring yet sensitive Being Human right now in Dr. Who’s spot, and shortening Graham Norton to get it in, which hacks me off even more. I wish they would acquire and run more mysteries like the Life on Mars/Ashes to Ashes series, or maybe whatever is as good as Coupling. If you’re in Scotland, have you seen any advance clips of the new Dr. Who?
Great. The best of the new series over the last 4 years has been some of the best TV ever.
way cool news
I don’t think BBC A HD has been picked by anyone in the US yet. At least that was true for Torchwood mini.
{fifth season will air on BBC America and BBC America HD in Q2 2010 shortly after its UK premiere}
Excellent. This means that there will be only a few weeks lag time between the UK broadcast and the American broadcast. Its a shame Primveal could cancelled right after the Season 3 cliff hanger.
I would like to see “Spaced”! Why is nobody showing that series in the U.S.? There’s still plenty of classic British television that’s not seen in the U.S.
Maryland Public Television is running “New Tricks” on Saturday evening (in the rare weeks when they aren’t having their endlessly repetitive fund-raising campaigns.) It’s pretty good, and has excellent actors.
I get it on Comcast.
Is this doctor included under Obamacare?
I don’t get it on my Comcast. But now that you say this, perhaps I should call and see if I can change the list of things I get. Last time I called, they had Skinamax and WhoreBO as required in order to get BBC. I can do without BBC to avoid supporting the crap from Skinamax, et al.
REPLACES
My heart would skip a beat if they ever got Sir Sean to play the role of The Doctor.
Good Lord, it looks like that doctor needs one.
What is Skinamax? I guess I don’t get that. I have their basic digital lineup, no premiums, and I get so many channels I can’t keep track, like, three public TV channels, five different Mhz channels, six Spanish channels (but, unfortunately, not Televisa), two OnDemand channels and I think about 10 different sports channels, including golf for when I need to nap. Don’t get me started on the number of children’s channels they give me. If your Comcast is like mine, you might want to call them and ask them if you get that channel, because sometimes they re-do the channel lineups and have to send a signal to your TV so you can pickup the new ones. Occasionally the signal doesn’t do its thing, and I have to call and ask them to resend. The last time they re-programmed, all of a sudden I didn’t get the History channel. So I called them and they fixed it in two minutes without me even having to boot the digital box.
I think that’s why I love Scotsmen so much, they are real manly men, not wimps. Probably something genetic.
Pertwee and Hartnell will always be “My Doctor”.
Even though I got pulled into Doctor Who by watching the New series.
